Under oath, Holder discredits 'Bush did it too' excuse for 'Gunwalker'
St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 9 November, 2011 | Kurt Hofmann

Posted on 11/10/2011 5:21:28 AM PST by marktwain

It has become clear that for administration apologists, the favored approach for dealing with the "Project Gunwalker" fallout is to loudly shout "Bush did it too!" (as if that would somehow mitigate the atrocity of our government aiding in the murder two of federal law enforcement officers and hundreds of Mexican citizens). If this had not been obvious before yesterday's Senate Judiciary Committee hearing with Attorney General Eric Holder, it certainly is now, with Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Chuck Schumer (D-NY) enthusiastically beating that drum.

In 75 seconds of pointed questioning of Attorney General Holder (see sidebar video), Senator John Cornyn has perhaps left the excuse makers scrambling for something better. In that time, he asked Holder if he knew that Operation Wide Receiver (the Bush-era operation) actually did involve an attempt to track the firearms, while Fast and Furious did not. Cornyn then asked Holder if he knew that Operation Wide Receiver was run in conjunction with the Mexican government--Fast and Furious was kept secret from not only Mexico, but from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) attaché to Mexico, Darren Gil. Gil, in fact, after discovering on his own what was going on, was basically pushed into retirement when he balked at the near act of war of "walking" guns into Mexico without the Mexican government's knowledge or permission.

Holder was eventually forced into the position of having to put the "Bush did it too" excuse out of its misery himself:

Senator, I have not tried to equate the two--I have not tried to equate Wide Receiver with Fast and Furious. . . . Again, I'm not trying to equate the two.

Hmm . . . "not trying to equate the two"? As Andrew McCarthy points out in National Review Online, Holder certainly

We need a new Senate, a new president, and accountablity. The MSM has always had Eric Holder's back. Now, it doesn't have as much power as it used to, and some truth is getting out.

My only quibble with this piece is the use of the word "near" here -- it should be something more like "potential" or "arguably an". If I were in the Mexican government, I'd be furious and demanding all sorts of apologies and concessions, and I'd be in the right to do so.

Glad to hear of Cornyn’s Questioning of Holder.
I was aware of the facts, but not this line of questioning.

I watch and listen to a LOT of conservative news, why didn’t I already know about this exchange?

‘I watch and listen to a LOT of conservative news, why didn’t I already know about this exchange?’

I guess you didn’t hear: Herman Cain may have said something inappropriate to a woman years ago. That is all that can be discussed now.

If President Bush’s people did something like this, it was kept under control - obama’s people just let the weapons go and shrug their shoulders and act ignorant ...

Holder ... how many times did ‘Bush did it too’ work when your Mom/Dad asked you why you did something stupid/naughty/bad/dumb? Odds are it never did and you got your butt beat for what you did.

It is an evolving story. I believe this testimony occurred yesterday, so it is pretty fresh. The video of these questions and answers is at the link.

I'm not so sure this is true. Little Eric, when he got into trouble, probably said "it's whitey's fault" and his parents would smile and nod.

If he had gotten his butt beaten a few times he may not have grown up to be such a jackass.

You have to search for breaking news about F&F.

This makes me angry on one hand...this story would be Watergate on steroids if a Rep was in the WH...On the other hand, I realize the MSM died when they got in bed with Obama, so I don't expect any different.

I'm hoping and praying that Issa will work this case to it's logical conclusion: Find out who ordered it...and find out WHY it was created. If that answer is Obama subverting the US Constitution? That is treason and should be prosecuted according the the laws of the land.

Ditto for me. When is the media going to pick up on Obama’s act of war against Mexico?

And I believe it WAS an act of war - an attempt not only to attack the 2nd Amendment here in the US but also to create a Darfur-type situation immediately to our south so that refugees from the violence would pour into the US and only “heartless” people would insist that these people stay in Juarez and be butchered (by weapons provided by the US government).

This lawless administration is downright DANGEROUS. And the media chews its cud (or other body parts) while acts of war go unreported. Disgusting. This media is also downright DANGEROUS.

The CBS story focused on Gil's difficulty in getting the BATFE to acknowledge, even to him, that this was all according to plan.

Where are the positive results (apprehensions/convictions) of this noble well-intentioned, American/Mexican citizen protecting operation?/HEAVY SARCASM

Pre-meditated, agenda-driven murder (it didn't matter who). TREASON.

Bush’s people tracked the guns so they would lead back to the cartels. Holder didn’t even have tracking devices in the guns. The only way Fast & Furious (and MANY OTHER BATFE operations’) guns were going to be tracked was by serial number AFTER the guns had been found at crime scenes, because the guns were not equipped with tracking devices.

Every time somebody refers to F&F as a “weapons-tracking operation that went bad” they are repeating a lie that Holder wants us to believe. It was a deliberate choice of the operation that the only way those weapons were going to be “tracked” was AFTER they had killed somebody.

I initially repeated the lie myself without knowing it, but upon finding that those weapons did NOT even have tracking devices installed, I can only conclude that this was never intended to find drug cartels and cannot be called a “weapons-tracking operation” at all.

That fact needs to be plastered all over so people can see this for what it really is: Obama’s act of war against Mexico in an attempt to destroy the US Constitution and create pity for Mexicans who need to come to the US illegally to escape (Holder-induced) drug cartel butchering.

I think it WOULD be an act of war if Mexico were a sane country, you have to ask yourself; why isn’t Mexico pi**ed off because of F&F?
Ummm?
