German coal plants: fine. U.S. coal plants: evil. Newthink is not merely a concept, but a reality.

Why isn't the oil being refined closer to the source, rather than sending it across the continent, where then the refinery output will be sent AGAIN around the continent?

The problem with that is you still have to transport the refined products (more than just gasoline), which would mean...more pipelines! And more trucks, more rail, etc. That infrastructure is already in place at the existing refineries.

Yup. Canada could simply choose to route the pipeline to Vancouver or somewhere else on the coast. Then the wouldn’t have to deal with the US State Department. I wouldn’t blame them at all.

Environmentalists are job-destroyers through their religious consecration to Gaia, the goddess of BANANAOAF — Build Absolutely Nothing Anywhere Near Anybody Or Anything Forever.

May this phrase be known everywhere!

Pipe ready. TransCanada has begun stockpiling pipe to be used in its Keystone XL project near Gascoyne, N.D.

Hopefully Rush, Hannity et al will seize this opportunity to inform the American people that this job is MORE than "Shovel Ready", it's "PIPE READY!"

Getting permits from the EPA would be my guess. Or they would just happen to find some endangered insect or bird in exactly the place where you wanted to build your refinery.

Certain refineries are set up to process specific types of crude oil. In Texas, we have refineries that are set up to process high sulfur (heavy) crude, like the Valero refinery in Corpus Christi.

Significant amounts of crude oil from Eagle Ford shale are now being produced that are close to Texas refineries, but there is talk that this oil may be exported, because the refineries don’t have the capacity to handle all of it, and it is a light/sweet crude that doesn’t require sophisticated refinery operations.

From the article:

"We'll see if [Mr. Obama] is an oil guy or a people guy," eco-agitator Bill McKibben recently warned at an Occupy Wall Street event[.]

McKibben has a false dichotomy going there. Being pro-oil IS pro-people: people need jobs, and Keystone development would provide many.

Payback to the Shiekhs who sponsored his academic rise. Obama might not be able to push America away from Israel, but this he can do.

The very last thing the Arabs want, even more than the destruction of Israel, is the end of the oil gravy train. An energy-sufficient America would leave a lot less dough for palaces, blond prostitutes, umpteen-million-dollar yachts and all the other goodies that go with being a rich Arab.

That one decision in their favor paid their investment back a thousand fold.
