Houck concedes; Virginia Republicans assume control of State Senate (control all 3 branches)
Washington Examiner ^ | 11/10/11 | Steve Contorno

Democratic Sen. Edd Houck announced Thursday he will not request a recount and conceded his race to Republican challenger Bryce Reeves, giving the GOP complete control of government in Richmond.

Houck, a seven-term incumbent from Spotsylvania, was 86 votes behind Reeves on election night Tuesday, but the gap grew to 222 after localities tallied provisional ballots. The 0.5 percent difference in 45,077 votes was still close enough for Houck to ask for a recount, but he said he would decline that opportunity during a press conference Thursday.

Reeves' victory gives the GOP a two-seat gain in the Senate and forces a 20-20 split in the chamber. Republican Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling presides over the Senate and holds the tiebreaker vote. He indicated Wednesday that Republicans will operate as though they have a majority.

Republicans now control the legislative and executive branches for just the second time since the Civil War, and are likely to pursue a considerably more conservative agenda when the new session begins in January.

Elections results aren't official until the State Board of Elections certifies them on Nov. 28.

Well, if we don’t beat Obama next year that Governor down there and the Governor of Wisconsin will be battling it out for the Republicasn nomination. Both have pretty darn good records.

The last time the VAGOP controlled the Senate, it was dominated by RINOs. The House Of Burgesses had a conservative GOP majority.

A DIMocRAT state senator in VA commented that it would be devisive for the Republicans to act as if the senate was a power base. What a putz.

Good for Virginia in coming to their senses. Now throw some of that good sense over here to Oregon as we are close(1 down in senate, tied in House, retread dim governor).

Timmy Kaine’s remarks yesterday on Facebook about the election results:

“Congratulations to Democratic candidates across the Commonwealth. Voter turn-out made the difference in key races!”

LOL!

Nontheless, we have a victory.

Yes, something very fishy here.

Do you suppose that a re-count might have revealed a passel of fraudulent votes...???

Ten years ago, the state was solid Red. Demographics have changed, especially in NOVA. Too many Yankees moved in and the politics shifted.

It isn’t just Yankees that moved into Northern Virginia. It’s hordes and hordes of Third World immigrants and illegal aliens, including way too many Muslims. They all voted Dhimmi-crat.

Virginia recounts don’t change the vote totals much.

In 2005 our present magnificent Governor, Bob McDonell, won the Atty Gen election by 323 votes out of almost 2 million cast.
His opponent got a recount.
The state-wide recount changed the margin by only 37 votes (in Bob’s favor to boot).
