The shooting happened in a busy section of downtown Oakland adjacent to the Occupy an encampment where drug use is prevalent, and where devoted protesters have increasingly struggled to control fights and robberies and deal with mentally ill homeless people.

Imagine that you’ve been in basic camping conditions for four-plus weeks. Imagine that you’ve consumed a fair amount of alcohol per day, and smoked more weed than normal. Imagine using some drugs that you’d typically not see in Vermont. Imagine it’s winter, and it’s pretty chilly at night. Imagine that you’ve done without any modern devices for weeks now. Imagine that it’s wet, and likely to start snowing within two to three weeks. Imagine that the ‘bosses’ of this mess have not established an end-point. Imagine the coffee getting stale and the same old sandwiches for lunch and dinner.

You will lose your enthusiasm for camping after a while. Doesn’t matter if you were Occupy or Tea Party....camping has a limit. And then you will start doing some pretty stupid stuff.
