Penn State Scandal: Mother of Alleged Victim Says Son Was Afraid to Tell Sandusky 'No'

The mother of the boy who triggered the investigation into Jerry Sandusky's alleged child sex assaults says that during the years of abuse the boy suffered he felt he didn't have the power to say no to the former Penn State football coach.

Speaking exclusively with George Stephanopoulos on ABC News' "Good Morning America" the mother of the boy, who is referred to in court papers as Victim 1, describes how she learned of the abuse and how her son lived in fear of coming forward to implicate a football coaching legend.

"I had said, 'You know, maybe we should have come to this conclusion earlier -- you should have told me,'" the mother, whose name is being withheld, said she told her son. "He was like, 'Well, I didn't know what to do … you just can't tell Jerry no.'"

Of course the boy was afraid. Of course the boy didn’t want to say anything out of fear and shame. That is why the adults had to step up to the plate, including the coach who actually witnessed it. Did they? We all know the answer to that. They passed it along as if it was a report that Sandusky was caught in a traffic violation.

Some things never change. Abusers have power; kids do not.

The NCAA needs to establish a 1-8000 hotline # to report sexual abuse of minors. There are nearly 400 division 1 schools and probably the same D-2 D-3 and Jr colleges. Penn Sate could not be the only place these sick monsters have struck. At risk youth programs. boys summer camps, etc etc exist at most colleges. One wonders how many more are out there scared to come forward.

The Boy Scouts got a lot of flack for keeping homosexuals out of positions of leadership.

All the do-gooders said that this was homophobic and deeply wrong.

But I think the Boy Scouts were on to something.

My heart just breaks for the little boys that were groomed and violated by this monster.

I do call some BS on this mother’s story

She had no idea over all those years? Allowing all those sleepovers with a lovesick old chicken hawk??? No Mom gay-dar went “ping” even a tiny bit?

She didn’t know Sandusky was pulling her kid out of school?
What school lets a kid be released without parental permission?

as an aside

all this outrage at Penn State-
what about the entire Hollywood movie and music industries and their lionizing Michael Jackson and who knows what other child predators???

I read the article. The school was letting Sandusky take the kid out of class without telling the mother! This is beyond crazy.

NO profanity. OK, NO profanity on freerepublic.

(deep breath)

For Victim #1, HE had been witnessed at his high school by the wrestling coach in a secluded weight room with Sandusky on top of him.

And this wrestling coach does nothing either? WTF is WRONG with these people?

Do you think McQueary would have dialed 1-800-what-eva to report this?

We have failed our children. We have aloud evil take over our lives. We have become the sheep that we all feared. This is just a small view of the evil that pollutes our lives.....There was a time when someone who did this to a children would be hanging from a short rope.
This will be whitewashed and within 6 months be forgotten.
And evil wins again. A sign of the times.... The end times.

In these short few days this thing has been analyzed by every news outlet in every which way - except the glaring fact that it was homosexual pedophilia. No one dares say the “H” word.

And now that Sandusky's are openly allowed in the military, it will be you just can't tell Sergeant no.

Sandusky was married, so how would that have kept him out of the Boy Scouts?

Don’t be so hard on this mother.

The man was a football coach—that’s a manly profession, no?

The boy had a father figure—she probably thought this was a good thing.

And the boy—is completely believable that he didn’t know how to come forward about the abuse—he probably didn’t even have words to know what happened to him.

Sexual abuse can come from quarters where you would never even suspect it. It’s an evil world out there.

The blame goes to Sandusky and his enablers. And if that means the whole football program goes at PSU, so be it.

And I think there is much more to this whole story. The disappearance of the District Attorney Gricar is a lot of smoke pointing to a very big fire.
