You’re quite right.

I too agree with the Boy Scouts, but the fact is that I’d venture that a majority of pervs don’t look like some disheveled old man with beady little eyes in a rumpled trenchcoat.

I’d be willing to bet the majority of pervs are upright, well-off, church-going, married, likely with kids of their own, responsible, tax-paying, productive citizens.

The mask of normalcy can conceal a great deal of abhorrent and deviant behavior, and can do so far more successfully than looking like a stereotypical kiddie-raper.

The real monsters aren’t always the pedophiles you see posted on the web. More often than not, they’re your next door neighbors.

I'm trying to follow your logic.
It appears you are denigrating the mother of a raped child for bringing charges against the rapist.
There is no reasonable doubt that Sandusky raped young boys. None.

The only questions now are how many boys did he rape, and how many people were involved in hiding Sandusky’s crimes for their own reasons.

I'm curious. Do you really think Sandusky did not rape these young boys?

One of the moms recorded a phone call with Sandusky, where Sandusky admitted that naked bearhugs in the shower were wrong. Sandusky said he wished he was dead.

The system did no favors to anybody by overlooking this. This man is literally sick, and he knows it. There’s a pathology for pedophilia. It came from somewhere.

The whole psychological profession is making a mistake when they try to say that homosexuality is “normal”. There is a really high correlation between traumatic events in a child’s life and their eventual self-identification as homosexual. Who knows whether Sandusky had the same thing happen to him when he was a kid. But normalizing the behavior only means that the vicious circle continues with nobody stepping in to try to break that circle.

The same thing happened with Clinton. People who have been treated for sexual addictions were wishing that he would just admit his dysfunction and bring the whole issue of sexual addictions and dysfunction into the national conversation, so people could learn that there is a way out. Instead the nation giggled about oral sex and middle-schoolers came to think of it is a game. And again - it was the political “machine” that “protected” Clinton (actually ensuring he remained ensnared; what they really protected was their own power - just as the “multi-million dollar football machine” that you referenced in the Penn State case.)

Rush Limbaugh said the other day that there was an angle on the Penn State situation that nobody would dare bring up - himself included. I think that was probably the homosexual angle. This whole thing could lead to an honest discussion that could actually help the casualties of pedophilia - both victims and perpetrators, who may well be both.

“The Boy Scouts got a lot of flack for keeping homosexuals out of positions of leadership.

Sandusky was married, so how would that have kept him out of the Boy Scouts?”

####

Good question.

Can we at least agree the Scouts were 100% correct in their stance, understanding that implementation would be difficult when dealing with lying, amoral, perverts who will stop at nothing to feed their sickness?

Not to mention swimming against the heavy tide of nonjudgmental political correctness that is destroying our society at its very foundation. Hell, you can even see it creeping onto this site, normally a bastion of rationality and traditional values.

My sister was sexually harassed in incidents that included locker room showers. She spent years in counseling working that through. And the university where she was at would not do a thing about what she reported because the guy who did it to her was a tenured black assistant coach.

Every Sharon Bialek that comes giggling onto the scene with dollar signs dancing in their eyes makes it that much harder for people like my sister to be taken seriously.

It seems many pedophiles were victims of the same as children. A "gift" that keeps on giving.

So true.

That “clean” side is actually part of the pathology. They have their dark side and need to both cover it up and redeem themselves by also having a squeaky-clean side. That’s why so many pedophiles are clergy. They feel a need for both redemption and a cover for what they really are. Truly the sinner-saint dichotomy. They are sick and in need of healing.

What is true for politics is so often true in personal things as well. We know that in politics, absolute power corrupts absolutely. That’s why we need transparency and accountability. On a personal level, that transparency and accountability is the biggest help to a person’s actual recovery from addictive behavior. As long as the person can claim there is no problem because nobody else knows about it, the secrecy will tempt them to keep doing what they’re doing but try to hide it and compensate for it in other ways. It’s a trap.

Of course the boy was afraid.

EVERYONE was afraid.

Having the boy open up in their office, the school officials STILL urged the mother to carefully consider the consequences before reporting anything.

Sandusky had the power to bring down the $$$ football money machine. They let him retire with honor in 1999 to protect the Penn State brand.

It didn't have to be that way. Sure they might have a taken a slight hit for exposing Sandusky, but it would have quickly blown over, and Paterno and Company, might actually come out looking like heroes for doing the right thing.

Yes, and as long as people keep ignoring it or pretending that it’s “normal”, it will keep “giving” for a long, long time. That’s what’s so sad about it. Nobody has done Sandusky or these kids any favors by sweeping this under the rug.

I actually think that most things we think make us a “nice” person (non-confrontation, for instance) are really not nice at all, but just ways for us to FEEL that we are nice, when in reality we are deeply hurting the person we’re depriving of real accountability.

I’m a Christian, and so many people think of Jesus as this soft person who was nothing but mushy-gushy. When you look at the Gospels, though, He called the Pharisees “white-washed tombs” which look great on the outside but stink on the inside. People hated His guts because of the things He said to them. Yet we say “Jesus is love”. Seems contradictory until you realize that love means you give the person what they need, not what makes you feel like you’re a nice person. If they needed a kick in the butt, that’s exactly what Jesus gave them - because He loved them more than He loved His own reputation or feelings of serenity.

Actually, the Harrisburg Patriot reported on the key details of the GJ investigation of Sandusky last March; it was not picked up by the national news or sports media (other than Mark Madden) and they received numerous complaints about slurring the wonderful PS football program in general and Sandusky in particular.

“The blame goes to Sandusky and his enablers. And if that means the whole football program goes at PSU, so be it.”

The football program will stay.

EVERYONE associated with the program will be gone at the end of the season. The NEXT Head coach will be tasked with re-building the staff from the janitors, trainers, coaches on up.

It is easier to flush the toilet than choose what turds should stay.

Sandusky nonsexually “courted” Victim 6 for 3 yrs. before making the first sexual move -lathering him in the shower. This first sexual overture after 3 yrs. of platonic preparation precipatated the 1998 investigation and his 1999 retirement. The alert mom of Victim 6 noticed his wet hair, when he came home, saving him from future shower forays with a naked Sandusky. Paterno could have saved all victims after 1998, but he claims now he never knew, even though he obviously forced heir-apparent Sandusky out in 1999.

“what about the entire Hollywood movie and music industries and their lionizing Michael Jackson and who knows what other child predators???”

Exactly! Remember, Roman Polanski?

44-year-old man, you can drug and anally rape a terrified 13-year-old girl as she sobs, says “no, no, no,” and pleads for her asthma medication, and face no punishment at all

Whoopi Goldberg said it wasn’t “rape-rape”

Jonatham Demme, Whoopi Goldberg (”It was something else, but I don’t believe it was rape-rape.”), John Landis, Mike Nichols, Salman Rushdie, Martin Scorcese, Tilda Swinton, Diane von Furstenberg, and Debra Winger (pictured at a Zurich press conference stating, “[The arrest] is based on an... old case that is all but dead but for minor technicalities.”)

http://tinyurl.com/7gllkpz

Hollywood, influential movie mogul Harvey Weinstein’s called for US filmmakers to lobby against Polanski’s extradition

from the LAT...

“My personal thoughts are let the guy go,” said Peg Yorkin, founder of the Feminist Majority Foundation. “It’s bad a person was raped. But that was so many years ago. The guy has been through so much in his life. It’s crazy to arrest him now. Let it go. The government could spend its money on other things.”...

A spot-on analysis.

I’m reminded of John Wayne Gacy, or even Ted Bundy.

I’m not from Pennsylvania, but I can gather that Penn State has quite some clout in the state. It seems that thanks to Mr. Sandusky’s “squeaky-clean” persona and his personal prestige and power, he was enabled to continue with his deviancy for far too long.

I wonder what Penn State’s next move will be. Will they be concerned with maintaining their public image and go with full-on damage control? I’ve read that the next shoe to drop (as per Mark Madden from Pittsburgh) is that Mr. Sandusky was rumored (and I must emphasize that) to have pimped out kids to wealthy donors. Reminds me of the Franklin County case of the late 80s/early 90s, where similar allegations were claimed.

The Scouts not only don’t accept gay leaders, but they also recognize the danger of covert predators who appear normal in society.

They deal with this by, among other things, strictly enforcing a policy against solo leaders taking boys anywhere. There are always multiple leaders on hand to prevent this type of solitary abuse.
