Barack Obama has read the riot act to the leaders of several European countries - saying more dramatic action is needed to avert a eurozone meltdown.

The U.S. President made telephone calls to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Italian President Giorgio Napolitano late last night.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said the president had demanded faster action from Europe.

It came as Hong Kong revealed it had plunged into recession.

Speaking from the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation conference, Geithner said: 'The crisis in Europe remains the central challenge to global growth.

“Why should European leaders listen to someone who has to bribe his Leftists at home to vote for him next year?”

NATO and various other military subsidies. One reason why defense spending per GDP of Euroweenie countries are low. The kicker, the ungrateful Eurotwits complain about our high amount of defense spending/GDP ratio.

If the United States drops a lot of defense subsidies (In these bad economic times) from Europe, the Euroweenies will be left pissing in the wind. I have no doubt Obama is playing hardball; and he has plenty leverage to scare the pants off the Euro leaders.

The tell all in the article is the fact that Hong Kong has said it has ‘plunged’into recession. Could their overlords in China be far behind?

If the most dynamic economies in Asia: Hong Kong, China?, Taiwan? are ‘plunging’ into recession at what point do they lose the ability to stabilize markets with their purchase of Eurozone debt? The U.S. Debt has gone wanting already to the point that a vast majority of our debt is being monetized by the purchasing of a vast majority of T-Bills by the Federal Reserve Bank.

Hold on tight. The market is up on this news?

For the most part, the people of Europe hate our guts. But mark my words, no matter how much it hurts the American taxpayer, once again our daft politicians will rake their socialist chestnuts out of the fire.

Even worse punishments?????

Yes. Even worse: he will send Mooochelle to Europe shopping. Maybe her lavish spending and that of her 80 person posse will snap Europe out of its slump.

I had to check the calandar...thought it was April 1st for a second.

This BOZO calling anyone to lecture them on economic policy is absurd to the max. Of course, being the coward he is, he does it by phone and not in person when he was with these same people recently. I truly hope they had the gumption to tell him to GFY.

where is all the money? Did they just burn it all?

I'm so economist, but if you listen to the media it seems
like everybody in the world owes everybody else. If that
were the case we'd all be even. I'm not being completely
serious, but you get my point.

“Had to double check to make sure this wasn’t from The Onion or somewhere similar.”

I checked twice, and still can’t believe it’s not satire. If it really happened, it must have been the Grey Goose talking. When are Obama’s minders going to figure out it’s the booze OR the phone, but not both at the same time?

I have no idea what this means, and, I am sure the European leaders don't either. But, I am sure DumBO does not mean reduce regulation, dig coal, drill oil, nuke power now or cut spending and taxes. The European socialism ZerO admires is in danger of destructing.
