After exhaustive work to recover from a dramatic August launch failure, a Russian Soyuz spacecraft carrying two cosmonauts and a NASA astronaut was poised for blastoff late Sunday on a delayed flight to the International Space Station, the program's first manned launching since the U.S. shuttle was retired.

What is a Soyuz? It’s a capsule, isn’t it? Didn’t the American astronaut who went to space with the Russians come back to Earth in one? I remember seeing one of our astronauts being pulled out of some type of capsule.
ISS Docking coverage on SpaceflightNow begins Tuesday night at 11 PM CST.
Two US guys came down in a Soyuz (along with the Russian Cmdr) some months after the Columbia burned up, and the STS was grounded, yet again.
I’ve never heard of a Soyuz until now. I looked it up on Wkipedia.I saw an image of one coming down over land, with a parachute attatched to it.
If it ain’t broke....
Soyuz is both the booster type and capsule.
You just have to have faith. And luck. And bulldog determination.
I'm sure that several bars in kamchatka are rocking and rolling tonight. I would be, were I there, and part of the team. ;)

It looks like it would be pretty cramped, especially when coming back down to earth.
I can’t imagine being in space. I wonder what that would be like. From what I understand the heart shrinks. Sounds safe enough...
Russians do like to drink, don’t they?
Oy! you missed the '60s and '70s?
I can draw components of it, given a quadrille pad and mechanical pencil.

Yuri established a custom on his way out to the rocket, before he was the first human to orbit earth... He stopped to pee on the right rear wheel of the bus that was transporting him. Even American astronauts do today, when they fly Soyuz.
And never forget Alan Shepard's prayer aka astronaut's prayer.... "Dear Lord, don't let me f--- up".
Rich history, there, in history. If you study it.

I was born in 1976. Is it good that I missed the 70’s?
It’s not Kamchatka but Baikonur, Kazakhstan where they launch the rockets!
If they were on the same inclination as the Mars-Grunt satellite that’s stranded in LEO they could get out and kick its tires to get it going again!
And you never had to own a polyester leisure suit. Be thankful for small favors. But do try to study history. Even the local, recent stuff. Say, from 200 BC to now. It can be technically facinating to see where our world came from.

I’m somewhat familiar with the 60’s and the 70’s,the latter being the decade I’m the most fascinated with.

What was Nixon’s “Checker Speech” about?
