Traffic On Hwy. 99 Diverted At Elk Grove
ELK GROVE, Calif. (KCRA) -- Sacramento County sheriffs deputies say a California Highway Patrol officer was shot near Elk Grove and the suspected gunman is dead.
The shooting occurred Sunday evening during a traffic stop on Highway 99 just south of Elk Grove.
As the officer approached the vehicle they were shot at multiple times, California Highway Patrol officials say. The officer is in stable condition at a local hospital, KCRA has confirmed.
Elk Grove police officers at the scene heard the shots fired at the officer. A shootout then took place between the suspect and a combination of Elk Grove Police and CHP officers, authorities say. Public Information Officer Chris Trim confirmed that it was an Elk Grove police officer who shot the suspect.
CHP officials said the suspect was fatally wounded in the shootout.
Highway 99 has been shut down going both directions at Laguna Boulevard due to the police activity. The highway reopens at Grant Line Road. This section of Highway 99 is expected to remain closed until 11 p.m.

Prayers up
Prayers up for certain.
Good job, Elk Grove Police Officer. Nice shooting...
Can Eureka borrow those officers to take out the trash on the lawn of the Humboldt County courthouse
I live in Commiefornia. The Politicos just outlawed Open Carry. Getting a Concealed Carry Permit is near impossible unless you are a certain U.S. Senator or the buddy of a Local Sheriff.
You can't own an Assault Rifle, or any Rifle or Pistol that has more than a ten shot magazine. Gun Owners are looked upon as a threat to the Socialist Order.
Again I ask, how did this happen?
My nephew is a CHP in that area
Rancid thug is dead = GOOD RIDDANCE!
PRAYING for the officer.
Did "the officer" multiply on his way to the vehicle? Or was this written by a product of the teachers' union?
