Sen. John McCain of Arizona, the 2008 Republican presidential standard-bearer, has taken pains to avoid weighing in on the 2012 GOP primary. But on Sunday, McCain said he was "very disappointed" that some Republicans defended waterboarding at Saturdays National Journal/CBS debate in South Carolina.
Waterboarding is torture, McCain, who was a prisoner of war and tortured during the Vietnam War, said via Twitter.
On Saturday, Herman Cain and Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota both endorsed waterboarding as an interrogation technique. President Obama banned its use at the beginning of his term, calling it cruel and counterproductive.

Zell Miller or Juan McCain?
I didn't vote for him, I voted against Obama.
McCain is torture.
It was Cindy’s water breaking that started the torture.
Me to McCain: You as the nominee for president is torture.
McLame is senatorial torture. Arizona...stop torturing the rest of us...Please?
Me too :((((((
Our official government policy should be that we don’t torture. I don’t expect to know what actually goes on and, with due respect, think McCain should quit repeating his opinion of waterboarding.
Torture is like abortion in that formal policy is one thing, whereas what actually goes on is quite another story that is impossible to tell.
Who cares what McCain is dissappointed in. Republicans are dissappointed in him.
I agree with your assessment of what real torture is. McCain knows what real torture is.
In your opinion, why does he throw the US under the bus for water boarding, which isn’t torture? This is what perplexes me about him.
McCain is a loser......as in the last election. Who cares? No one.
Waterboarding involves neither.
I’ll second that.
“McCain should do us all a favor and just endorse Obama.”
He already done this in his 2008 Presidential campaign against Obama. He said, “We have nothing to fear with Barack Obama in the White House.” When he said this, I knew we were in huge trouble.
Fu*k McCain...how about that? I've had it with folks having to preface all comments about McCain with the proverbial: “I respect his service blah...blah...blah”
I could give a rats arse about his service! This POS voted to take away free speech from his fellow Americans, stabs his own party in the back time and time again, and constantly reaches over to the enemy, all for a glowing article from the NYT’s.
You're free to “give him a pass” because of his military service, but many of us no longer feel the obligation to praise this traitor, back stabbing, POS.
I’d rather get waterboarded than listen to an Obama speech, not that’s true torture.
Lol -- well put. I'll add that if reasonable people can disagree about whether something is torture, it's probably not torture. If the US had been drilling detainees' kneecaps, there would be no argument.
McCain was a waste of a seat at flight school. He is a waste of a seat in the senate. He is Frenchie the bridge builder.
