When I moderated The Florida Tea Party Convention debate 8 days ago, Newt, Santorum and Bachmann all came out explicitly against public sector unions - but Cain did not. I was disappointed then and remain so on this issue.

As we all know, the SEIU, et al, represent a big piece of the Fifth Column in this country. I am very surprised that Cain supports these Marxist extortionists if that is the reality here. His past business ties probably play a big role in this...(?)

The Townhall folks keep coming up with this thing that federal workers don't have the right to bargain through unions.

The Postal Reorganization Act gave collective bargaining rights to Postal Employee Unions.

Time for Townhall to get up to speed on the law.

I’m a Cain supporter, but this is seriously disturbing. This could be enough to make me switch my support to Newt, although I’m not that comfortable with Newt either.

Actually, I have to support the unions in this as well. My grandfather and his cohorts made a deal with FDR. They'd clean the Communist Party organizers out of the federal employee organizations and he'd recognize their unions.

They cleaned them out. He recognized them.

You must want theCommies back eh?!

You tricky devils never give up.

Cain on unions:

He is against the Employee Free Choice act (forced unionization) - (www.hermancain.com/ “Issues” , May 21, 2011)

He is against Card Check - (Political column, THE New Voice, “Card Check Lies” , Feb 9, 2009)

He supported Scott Walker and spoke at the rally this year - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijx6ryJtvII

His empowerment zones are right to work only - http://www.redstate.com/laborunionreport/2011/10/20/union-bosses-unleash-on-herman-cain-for-targeting-unions-sacred-cows/

His empowerment zones bug me.
And his reliance on the “Super Committee”

It is always difficult to take a complex issue and turn it into a one liner. Should public employees have a vehicle in which to voice their concerns about salary, benefits, pension, and working conditions? Now the big question, should that voice be the local employees operating independently or should that voice be an international union that is in bed with the politicians?
I will have to hear more before I write Cain off.

very disturbing - the Union take over of America is what obumbles promised the unions.

WE don’t need this ‘dream’ carried on: “SEIU! SEIU! SEIU!

This is no small matter.

I was interested in Cain at first, but he has continually shown that he is not ready for primetime.

There's also a video today of him showing his awful grasp of current events / foreign affairs:

Brutal: Cain blanks on Libya, supports collective bargaining for public employee unions

while i agree with you we cant forget the politics involved. Ohio just voted down 2 to 1 the bill that would have neutered the union. for someone who isn’t a politician Cain is making the smartest move. it is clear from his other positions that he does not prefer them but at this time he sees them as a reality that must be accepted for the moment and dealt with. lets see newt and crew win the whitehouse without Ohio.

We have to remember that collective bargaining could cover a host of things. Gov. Walker, in Wisconson, continued to allow collective bargaining by the public unions on WAGES, but he cut off the bargaining on benefits, pensions, etc. It was the benefits, continued into perpetuity that were causing the problems for the State, not the wages.

Has anyone asked Mr. Cain SPECIFICALLY about bargaining for benefits, as opposed to wages?

Just give it a few days. Cain will likely correct it and tell us exactly what he meant.
