Pat Buchanan: Return of the War Party?
www.creators.com ^ | November 15, 2011 | Pat Buchanan

Is a vote for the Republican Party in 2012 a vote for war?

Is a vote for Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich a vote for yet another unfunded war of choice, this time with a nation, Iran, three times as large and populous as Iraq?

Mitt says that if elected he will move carriers into the Persian Gulf and "prepare for war." Newt is even more hawkish. America should continue "taking out" Iran's nuclear scientists — i.e., assassinating them — but military action will probably be needed.

Newt is talking up uber-hawk John Bolton for secretary of state..

But I could support an air campaign or support Israel if they will do the deed.

If we go to war we cannot have another war where the military goes to war, the nation has to go to war.

The generation running America today is too self centered to wage war as it was waged in WW2. It will not be George Patton and Curtis LeMay running the war, so we want to be very careful about going in. We need to be Machiavellian, it would not be in our interest to wage a war, but it would serve our interest rather nicely were Iran to be involved in a war. Saddam Hussein was not a choir boy when Reagan was president, but Reagan was able to see past all of that and see a useful SOB. The enemy of my enemy is not my friend, the enemy of my enemy is probably an A-hole too.

Yemen for one is a place that has potential to serve as Iran's Vietnam. It has a roughly 50/50 split between Shia and Sunni, a number of clan factions. I could see that ending up as a proxy war between Saudi Arabia and Iran that would soak up the resources of both nations. Do gooder Pollyannas cause half our problems, I'd take an America First Machiavelli over the bleeding hearts. We should leverage rather than be leveraged.

We have the firepower as does Israel, to bounce Iran off the lunar surface and back, several times.

And some suggest the U.S. start bombing campaigns and send hundreds of thousands of Americans into Iran to fight a war before being attacked, when Iran clearly is no threat to the U.S. now or in the distant future?

I have to wonder, what would the coalition look like this time?

Two false premises in one sentence.

To understand this concept, one has to read Orwell’s 1984. In that book, they were always at war and winning too! Only problem was that the war never ended.

A nuclear Iran may kill millions of people.

Right. And Iraq had stockpiles of WMD.

John Bolton is a great choice for Sec. of State. What if he had selected Sarah Palin?

I don’t work for MSNBC, and my point is that his book “How the Right Went Wrong” is about foreign policy, and it failed.

You just going to burp up comments and leave or state your position for war?

Right and since Iran is no threat to us let us stay out. We are broke being the world policeman when countries should protect themselves. We have hundreds of thousands in Europe to protect against Russia. After Iraq it is Iran. After Iran it will be another and then another. We should tell the world, take care of your own problems. Screw Romney and Gingrich. We don’t need another war of choice for the military industrial complex, oil, or ‘friends’ who ignore us. Enough is enough.

my point is that his book “How the Right Went Wrong” is about foreign policy, and it failed.

So what? Who cares if he doesn't get best seller on every book published? Is this your way of attempting to discredit Buchanan?

Come on.

Speaking of foreign policy, our foreign policy since Vietnam has been an absolute destructive disgrace, not to mention it's all but destroyed our economy, and forced the tax payers to their knees, all while U.S. taxpayers are being forced to prop up and pay off many countries to the tune of multiple trillions.

Look at our foreign policy with our closest neighbor in Mexico? That foreign policy has completely undermined and compromised our entire country.

Decades of this kind of out of control, destructive foreign policy have looted the American treasure as the tax payers repeatedly are economically gang raped to the point where America is broke and bankrupt.

We continue with these lunatic foreign policies, it will eventually leave America dead on the floor.

Book sales mean that the right didn’t agree with Buchanan on it. I don’t mean about Mexico or funding other countries, I mean Buchanan’s other foreign policy views.

Agree with him?

Few if anyone has been more correct or predicted what the hell is happening, or what is going to happen to the U.S. than Buchanan. Where ya been?

You need to reboot and get yourself updated.
