Victim 1 Cried When Penn State Suspect Was on TV, Mom Wants More to Come Forward
ABC ^ | 11/16/11 | Kevin Dolak &Jim Avila

The mother of the boy identified as Victim 1 in the Penn State sex abuse scandal said her son broke down in tears when he heard accused child molester Jerry Sandusky claim on television they were just "horsing around."

When she asked her son why he cried, "He said, 'Because I'm afraid. I'm afraid he'll go free.'"

The mom said she reassured her son that is not likely to happen.

"There's other witnesses, probably more victims out there to come forward yet," she told her son, and she urged others with information to speak up.

Her son is one of eight boys who Sandusky, 67, is accused of having molested over a 15-year period.

Lawyer Ben Andreozzi, who says he represents one of the eight alleged victims, said in a statement today "others are actually coming forward."

His own client, Andreozzi said, "wants Mr. Sandusky to know that he fully intends to testify that he was severely assaulted by Mr. Sandusky."

Andreozzi said he was "appalled by the fact that Mr. Sandusky has elected to re-victimize these young men at a time when they should be healing."

The mom of Victim 1, whose identity is being withheld by ABC News, lashed out at Sandusky and his efforts to portray the allegations of sex abuse as merely jock horse play.

I doubt anyone believes Sandusky's story.

Not if he testifies.

Right?..... Right?

We don’t know either way, but the mother of victim 1’s tale of her son crying at the sight of Jerry Sandusky doesn’t ring true.

I say this as a victim who deals with victims.

I was reading an article on ABCs (I think) site about the Sandusky interview. One poster summed it up thusly:

Stage 1: "Nothing happened."

Stage 2: "We were just horsing around."

stage 3: "It was conensual."

Stage 4: "I was seduced."

It’s looking like Michael Jackson all over again, the perv is going to walk.

Thank God for Dr. Conrad Murray.

I’ve heard reports that a dozen more victims have come forward. The information on this story still seems fairly scattered, but I guess we should have a more complete picture after a few more weeks.

Bingo!..it will be interesting to see how the civil suits play out..There will be other victims that come forward..many legitimate, some looking to cash in.

Penn State has the deep pockets here...Sandusky and Paterno not that much. Assuming that there is no greater scndal revealed, like a pedophile ring, or evidence of an institutional cover-up..the university should offer a pool of money...$50 mill?..to be allocated to the victims by the court. This avoids trials..I assume most victims would prefer NOT to be publicly identified...and atty fees could be limited by the court as well...

There is some question as to whether or not the Penn State endowment can be used to pay for settlement costs...Ultimately, it may come back to the state to foot the bill..

Then comes the bailout, and the rest of us will be on the hook.

If you want victims to come forward, announce a civil case against Penn State University for negligence and possibly abetting Sandusky. Once they smell settlement money, victims will come from far and wide, including many who have never even met Sandusky.

My first impression too.

I don’t know how old this kid is now, but I would think he’s big enough now to go punch Sandusky’s lights out.

Maybe she’s substituting some inappropriate words for the most descriptive ones. Perhaps she described him as crying because she couldn’t say, “My son was aggrieved by his insouciance.”

“If you want victims to come forward, announce a civil case against Penn State”.

I personally believe not all of the victims will come forward for either justice or a monetary award. Why? Last week, I was at a social gathering of sorts. The conversation of Penn State came up and one of the women said, “I couldn’t handle it if I ever found out my husband had been abused sexually by a man as a kid”. I initially thought she meant she couldn’t handle knowing that the person she loves was hurt and victimized. Boy, was I wrong. I would say 4 out of the 8 women agreed. They would question their husband’s sexual orientation even if this had occurred when he was relatively young. In fact, the four stated if something like that had happened and they had learned about during their dating years... the relationship would have been called off. I don’t know what to say since this disturbed me on many levels. If this is a common feeling... (and I hope that it isn’t)... I think only a fraction of those abused will come forward. IMHO.

That is precisely what Michael Jackson’s defense team counted on.

To say that I was shocked at what these women said would only minimize what I felt. For the life of me I don’t understand it. However, it was half the group! I asked one woman, “If you had been raped at age 12 and your husband found out about it... if he called you a “wh*re”... how would you feel?” I got the old, “It’s different”. I don’t see the difference at all. The boys were children. However, if this is a common feeling... few will step forward.

I doubt it too. But I will say he came across as a very calm and dedicated liar.

And I noticed Bob Costas exposed the fact that a 55 yr. old Penn State grad has no idea what the word “culpable” means.

Spanier lobbied the PA legislature in 2007 to keep a public records disclosure loophole for PSU. PSU has plenty to hide.
