Gregory asked Abramoff - who finished a jail stint over a year ago on influence-peddling charges and has been promoting his recently-published book - about the strategic counseling fee of over $1 million that was paid to Newt Gingrich by housing giant Freddie Mac.
"What do you make of all that?" Gregory asked.
Abramoff replied, "This is exactly what I'm talking about. People who come to Washington who have public service and they cash in on it. And they use their public service and their access to make money, and unfortunatley Newt Gingrich is one of them who have done it.

I don’t remember him being ousted. I remember he tried to shame Clinton into resigning in the midst of Lewinsky after Newt’s own affair was made public.
Best post of the week. One of the biggest factors in the rise of corruption has been the slow deterioration of the 1986 tax reform legislation. "Targeted" tax cuts are the devil's work.
Hannity interviewed Abramoff on the radio about 4 days ago and Abramoff was specifically asked by Hannity about Newt. Abramoff specifically and pointedly said that Newt was someone he could never corrupt. He said Newt always went off on an intellectual tangent or discussion and never (NEVER) took money from any lobby.
Newt was “ousted” after an investigation was launched regarding a book he wrote. After he resigned, the charges were dropped, as they were baseless. Sound familiar? It might also be important to note that Newt and his second wife, Marianne, were separated in the 90’s for six years. I believe they reconciled in 1996 but eventually divorced in 1999.

The key word in that sentence is “his”. That does not mean he didn’t participate mutiple other bribery ventures.
The problem is not the politicians so much as the Supreme Court, imo. The Supreme Court was to insure that the other two branches of Gov’t did not usurp power from the states and the people and pass laws outside of the limited powers outlined in the Constitution. Once the power hungry beast was let out of it’s cage, there is no getting it back in, imo.
This is the number 1 reason that I never vote for a politician that supports any type of tax increase. The only way to rein in the federal gov’t is to quit funding it.
Obama and other corrupt politicos are a symptom of the problem, not the problem.
Preferential regulations dwarf the influence in the tax code.

Well I’m glad the media is vetting all of our GOP candidates before they actually win the primary, however, it worries me that they have pretty much left Mitt alone. Makes me think that they are confident they can beat him, like McCain who was the “most electable”. We need a very rich conservatives to start hostile takeovers of the liberal media to get rid of the liberal propaganda machine.
Just as I predicted in a different thread. Gingrich rises in the polls, so it is HIS turn to get smeared. Unfortunately, years of beltway buddyism has given them lots of ammunition.
However, notice that Romney is NEVER subjected to this.
Makes one go: “hmmmmmmmmm”.
Don’t worry, the Romney smears will surface the next day, if he wins nomination. The democrats are holding their smears off on Romney because they are counting on him to win the nomination.
Then one must assume Abramoff simply did not know about Newt receiving money from Freddie & Fanny, at the time of his interview with Hannity.
Thank you, and something like the 9-9-9 plan will come very close to dismantle the corruption of lobbyists. The only other law needed is to never bail out any one regardless of how big or small. Solyndra is an excellent example of corrupt bailout practices which hurt all tax payers.
I don't think there was anything about Newt in Abramoff's book in regards to Newt. If there was anything to this I am sure it would have been. He is just picking up on it now since it hit the news. Of course I may be all wrong since I haven't read Abramoff's book.
Not that I'm casting aspersions at Gingrich, but that's not much of a defense for bad behavior, or criminal behavior. The same thing could be said of inmates in a prison. After all, in the defense of a particular convict, they all do it.
When they go after Reid/Pelosi/Clinton/Clinton/Rangels/Sharpton/Jesse, etc., etc. and Barry - I’ll be interested - until then I can’t heard them.

I just don’t like the idea that the left is STEERING the Republican race for the nomination in this manner.
