I don't know about a concerted effort but I am sure this will come about easily and quickly. With currency devaluations and fluctuations that will become trading sticking points, it is inevitable. China bought a boatload of our debt and then we devaluated (the full effects have yet to be felt) the dollar. China is not amused. Sooner or later you have to pay the piper.

A universal currency is a pipe dream.

A universally accepted currency is not and has happened throughout history.

The US dollar was that currency in the last 50 years or so. That is it was until the our government out grew our ability to finance its upkeep.
