Cain complains that Cuba policy questions in Florida are “gotchas”

Really? That could be a valid complaint from a candidate stumping for votes in places like Iowa and New Hampshire, where voters probably don’t have too much concern over the “wet foot dry foot” policy of accepting Cuban refugees. When a candidate goes to Florida and explicitly campaigns in the Cuban-American community to get them, those questions seem more pertinent than “gotcha” — especially when the topic at hand was Barack Obama’s “foggy foreign policy”:

Cain, who last week stumbled over questions about what he would do in Libya, seemed to know little about Cuba. His campaign kept reporters at bay, and when asked about the Cuban Adjustment Act and the so-called wet-foot, dry-foot policy, Cain seemed stumped. The policy allows Cuban immigrants who have made it to US soil to stay.

“Wet foot, dry foot policy?” Cain asked. His press handlers interrupted as Cain diverted his course and ducked back into the building. Later, when he emerged, he was asked again by another reporter. Cain wouldn’t answer. …

Cain, though, wouldn’t talk to reporters there, either. A FOX reporter asked Cain what he thought of President Obama’s easing of travel restrictions to Cuba. Cain said that was a “gotcha question.”

If we’re going to have a talk-show candidate, we could at least have Mark Levin...he is probably familiar with “Cuba”...

I guess I will take a candidate who admits he doesn’t have all the answers over one who talks a real good conservative game on the campaign trail and then does something completely different when he is in a position of power.

Watch the interview. The rolling back of the eyes, the dryness of mouth (you can hear it in his voice), the stalling in answering, the playing with the water bottle, are all classic tells of someone who is trying to bluff their way through an answer.

Well he’ll have to be because I’m not selling my principles out to vote for the scumbag triplets.

McCain was a bridge too far and its not happening again.

I am well versed about Cuba but I have NEVER heard of ANYTHING called “Wet foot, dry foot policy”.

Stupid reporters WERE trying to trip him up.

Newt was caught employed as a consultant and making money at it like hundreds of other consultants.

Cain is simply not a well informed individual.

He might make a fine CEO for a company.

He would be a lousy choice for CIC of these United States.

I don't expect encyclopedic knowledge of history - current events - or foreign policy.

But a typical layman's knowledge would be a good start!

Newtbots? As if we have no ideas of our own? That is insulting. You can support the ill prepared Cain all you want..but why insult Newt supporters? You gonna start calling us racists now? Probably. They will call you racists but then say they can't prove it.

So this is now part of the Cain campaign strategy.

Whining about “gotcha” questions from the media.

Won’t help ya, Herman!

republicanISM... more specifically what it has become today... is a damned disease contracted from their “good friends across the aisle”. One cannot compromise with satan or communism... and "their good friends" are aligned with both.

Wet foot drt foot refers to the fact that if they can get one foot on dry land they cannot be deported.

“Cain seemed stumped.” That does seem to be much of a challenge.

Quick, ask him how many nukes are in Cuba.

Newt was caught employed as a consultant and making money at it like hundreds of other consultants.

Actually, there were only 3 former Congressmen on Freddie's payroll, plus an ex-staffer. Four total. Newt claims he was consulted for his "historical opinion" only. So why was his contract with Freddie's Chief Lobbyist? And WHERE ARE HIS 'HISTORICAL OPINIONS'? Can we see them? So much pressure for Herman Cain to ask the NRA to release the paperwork on a $35,000 sexual harrassment settlement. Pressure from HotAir.com for Newt to release the paperwork on Freddie Mac? Not so much.
