Herman Cain receives Secret Service protection
Politico ^ | Nov.17, 2011 | MAGGIE HABERMAN

Herman Cain has gotten the protection of Secret Service agents, apparently effective today, sources told POLITICO earlier today.

A Cain spokesman didn't respond to repeated requests for comment. But ABC News has also apparently confirmed that Cain is getting federal protection. Continue Reading

It's unusual for candidates to get such protection prior to receiving the nomination, unless there is a credible threat of some kind.

UPDATE: “We are protecting Herman Cain,” Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan said Thursday night. He said the decision was made by Homeland Security “Secretary Napolitano, at the request of the Cain campaign and in consultation with the Congressional advisory committee.”

“The authority was given to the Service to protect Herman Cain [beginning] today,” Donovan said.

How interesting. Obviously a credible threat of some sort.

Given the controversy surrounding Cain, I’m not surprised Secret Service protection was granted.

There are a lot of nuts out there. Regardless of how he fares politically, pray for him!

That’s a lot of nonsense. If anyone should have it (and I don’t think anyone should unless they have been nominated), it should be Sarah Palin.

Day 48 Of The FReepathon
Do You Know Why?

There are loyal posters that donate every FReepathon. Some donate several times during every 'thon. But others never donate. Why?

1 My enemies haven't been zotted.
2 The owner doesn't support my candidate.
3 FR won't "upgrade" to "Like" buttons and blinky crap.
4 Someone else will donate.
5 My friend was zotted.
6 I lost my job and have no income.

Only one of those is a legitimate reason.

Support It Or Lose It

Til the day I die,, I have came to believe and always will believe that this is why Sarah Palin is not in the race.

I’ve heard no reports of death threats. Only sexual misconduct allegations. Another huge waste of taxpayer dollars.

I’ve heard no reports of death threats.

Oh, so you're privy to secure police communications? Do tell!

Death threats to a top tier Republican conservative front runner are not nonsense.

That's why the Secret Service was called in.

You are obviously not a Cain supporter and couldn't care less.

Funny, they never gave Sarah protection even though she got a lot more threats and a ton more nuts were out to get her.

If they had she wouldn’t have had to fear for the safety of her family and she still be in the race (and beating Obummer - which is why they didn’t give her protection). Obviously Holder only cares about his people.

It doesn’t matter. If a major party candidate requests protection, its granted.

The inadequacy of federal protection became clear when Democratic presidential candidate Robert Kennedy was assassinated in 1968.

Probably Perry threatening him for taking the nomination that he thought he would two-step away with.
