KABUL, Afghanistan, Nov. 17, 2011 – A combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban facilitator in the Daman district of Afghanistan’s Kandahar province yesterday, military officials reported.
The facilitator coordinated with insurgent leaders to plan and conduct roadside bomb and suicide attacks in the province.
The security force also detained two suspected insurgents.
In other Afghanistan operations yesterday:
-- A combined patrol burned a marijuana field containing about 500 pounds of the drug in the Reg-e Khan Neshin district of Helmand province.
-- In the Arghandab district of Kandahar province, a combined force seized a weapons cache containing 32 grenades and improvised explosive device components. All of the weapons were destroyed.
-- A combined patrol detained multiple insurgents and confiscated an IED in the Marjah district of Helmand province.
-- In the Qalat district of Zabul province, a combined force detained one suspect while searching for a Taliban leader. The leader coordinates the placement of roadside bombs and plans attacks across the district.
-- A combined force captured a Haqqani network facilitator and two suspects in the Sabari district of Khost province. The facilitator distributed rockets, firearms and homemade explosives, and planned attacks against Afghan forces.
-- Coalition forces seized a weapons cache containing 39 rockets, 44 canisters of propellant and three grenades in the Kahmard district of Bamyan province.
-- A combined force detained two suspects in the Pul-e ‘Alam district of Logar province. The security force also seized a recoilless rifle.
-- In the Zurmat district of Paktiya province, a combined force detained several suspects while searching for a Taliban leader. The leader constructs and stores roadside bombs and weapons, and coordinates attacks.
