Reid Co-Sponsors Bill to Ban Law Enforcement Use of Racial Profiling(Harry says Police are racist)
United States Senate Democrats ^ | 11/17/11 | Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid

Posted on 11/18/2011 9:14:15 AM PST by mdittmar

Washington, D.C.Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced he is co-sponsoring a bill by Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) to ban law enforcement from using racial profiling in Nevada and around the country. The End Racial Profiling Act of 2011(ERPA) is designed to enforce the constitutional right of equal protection under the law by eliminating the policies and procedures that can lead to racial profiling.

“Racial profiling has no place in our law enforcement,” Reid said. “Our law enforcement officials who put their lives on the line every day handle their jobs with professionalism, diligence, and fidelity to the rule of law. It’s imperative that they use their scarce resources for real law enforcement that targets those who engage in criminal activity, not one group of people based on their race, ethnicity, or national origin. I applaud Sen. Cardin for leading the way in this very important issue. I will continue working to build support for this crucial legislation while also working to create jobs and turn the economy around.”

The End Racial Profiling Act of 2011 would:

Prohibit racial profiling;

Mandate training on racial profiling issues;
Withhold federal law enforcement funding if local and state governments failed to adopt effective policies that prohibit racial profiling;
Provide grants for the development and implementation of best policing practices that discourage racial profiling; and
Require the Attorney General to report on ongoing discriminatory profiling practices

BACKGROUND:

Reid co-sponsored similar legislation in 2004 called the End Racial Profiling Act of 2004.

Aren't most law enforcement officials members of a Union?

You would think their Union leadership would come out with a statement denouncing this.

This proposal is just a bone being thrown to the trial lawyers who would make millions off of it.

Why doesn’t he employ some truth in labeling and name it the “Illegal Alien Protection Bill of 2011”?

There are numerous profiles used in Law Enforcement. Lets get rid of them all together. This country is already in worse shape than Sodom.

How often does anyone hear the name of Senator Cardin? Exactly. None. Not until the Democrat slavemasters need some color in their life so they trot out Cardin from the Democrat Plantation.

I have a question for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Suppose a bank was robbed and witnesses say the robber was white,5'7 with blond hair,who should the Police look for?

But isn't racial profiling already prohibited??? (Say, if a LEO is asked in court why he stopped someone, and his response is, "Because he was an African American", won't the judge throw the whole case out, and the PD fire the cop in a New York minute?)

My best guess is this is just another gratuitous stupid law to pander to Democrat voters. It isn't going anywhere in the House.

. . . ban law enforcement from using racial profiling . . .

Good plan. When a victim reports being robbed by "two young Amish males", I hope law enforcement will respond as professionally as TSA - and search the usual suspects.

Very likely a bone being thrown to the OWS people too who are becoming very disillusioned that the Democrats are not protecting their assemblies.

Any so-called "racist" legislation from here out will be desperate attempts to keep the left-loon natives on the reservation.

Harry, what America needs is a Constitutional Amendment for IQ profiling for Senators.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but it should require the IQ to contain three numbers, and the first one can’t be ZERO!

Hairy Palm Reid, got a question for you.

If the dems are so against racial profiling as they claim, why did the dems elect as president, not once but twice, a gov by the name of Bill Clinton that was sued for ordering his Arkansas state troopers to racial profile?

I think your last statement says it all. This is to get the vote on record. Then it can be used to show the opposition as racists. It is a ploy to get the minority vote. Obvious to a thinking person, but effective on the masses.

Precisely. My guess is race could not be used in the description of a perpetrator.

Harry Reid is not insane. He is insanely evil.

I don't think it is a ploy to get the minority vote. The Democrats already have it. Recent polls indicate that, while the percentages of minority support have gone down slightly, that is all. I agree that it is a ploy to paint the Republican Party as the party of racists, but I think the target is actually the mushy middle - the Independents who supported Obama and the Democrats in 2008 but are considering a move to the Right. The message is: “Sure, the economy is horrible, people have lost and are losing their jobs and homes. But do you really want to vote for racists?”

We’ve got horrible unemployment. The economy is crushed. Illegal aliens are bankrupting the government. We’re fighting wars to take the heat off Obama. Harry reid introduces a bill that makes no sense. I think the Democrats are afraid of that Canadian oil because it might mean that there’s enough tar to take care of them all.

I have been filling out state mandated racial profiling forms after every citizen contact for the last 12 years.

Every year Missouri releases the stats, and every year the ACLU complains that there is racial profiling. Nothing has changed. We are mandated to take an hour of racial profiling training a year. Nothing has changed with that either. In fact, stops of blacks went up. So where’s the disconnect?

This is just the Demos saying “Cops, don’t stop any people of color.”

If anything, it’s whites who are being profiled now to keep it “fair”.
