Reagan and Gingrich (Reagan's Ghost Writer?)
bessette/pitney ^ | Newt/Reagan

Reagan and Gingrich (from 1980)

In his 1980 debate with President Carter, Ronald Reagan famously said:

"...I think when you make that decision, it might be well if you would ask yourself, are you better off than you were four years ago? Is it easier for you to go and buy things in the stores than it was four years ago? Is there more or less unemployment in the country than there was four years ago? Is America as respected throughout the world as it was? Do you feel that our security is as safe, that we're as strong as we were four years ago? And if you answer all of those questions yes, why then, I think your choice is very obvious as to whom you will vote for. If you don't agree, if you don't think that this course that we've been on for the last four years is what you would like to see us follow for the next four, then I could suggest another choice that you have.

In an August 26, 1980 memo to Reagan advisers Evans, Laxalt and Kemp, Newt wrote:

When Carter in the debate has a nicely sounding statement on the economy or anything else, Reagan should not answer Carter or discuss the details of Carter's statement. Instead, he should look straight into the TV camera and say:

"You measure in your pocketbook whether or not what he's just said has been true these past four years. If your life is better, you should vote for him; he is the President and he's responsible. If your life is worse you should vote against him; he is the President and therefore he's responsible"

Here is newt in the eighties an admitted drunk: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/newt/vanityfair5.html

Wow.

Here is RR in the sixties an admitted Democrat:

“This is Ronald Reagan speaking to you from Hollywood. You know me as a motion picture actor but tonight I’m just a citizen pretty concerned about the national election next month and more than a little impatient with those promises the Republicans made before they got control of Congress a couple years ago.

I remember listening to the radio on election night in 1946. Joseph Martin, the Republican Speaker of the House, said very solemnly, and I quote, “We Republicans intend to work for a real increase in income for everybody by encouraging more production and lower prices without impairing wages or working conditions”, unquote. Remember that promise: a real increase in income for everybody. But what actually happened?

The profits of corporations have doubled, while workers’ wages have increased by only one-quarter. In other words, profits have gone up four times as much as wages, and the small increase workers did receive was more than eaten up by rising prices, which have also bored into their savings.

Here’s a speech from Newt that I got in an Email today! If I wasn’t already a fan, this would have clinched the deal. From Nov 2009: http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=qtjfMjjce2Y

they want Mitt . . . it has ever been the "establishment Republican" way to believe that running for President is basically the privilege of the next guy in line.

I have said, for 30 years, that this is the Achilles Heel of the Republican party.

It's the main reason I finally 'retired" from active 'political action." It was that or, literally, crack some heads.

Still haven't told us who YOUR horse in the race is - and how they can better beat obummer and how they can turn this country around quick enough to save us.

Go ahead. Go for it.

Nice try, and you proof Reagan ever seen and/read this is what.

Oh my. Is that the bottle talking/typing or just your inherent - ah - lack of gray matter?

This post of yours answers a lot of questions. Hereafter I won't point out how inane your posts are. For one thing, you probably don't understand half of what is posted and for another, I don't hit back at simpletons.

But Newt’s history does?

You are a crackpot. Seek help.

Geez. He doesn’t SOUND like a RINO.

I’m betting there is no comparable candidate’s speech out there.

I’m still on the Cain train, sitting in the elegant dining car, riding to Iowa with my rifle out the window in case we see some unfriendlies coming up for surPrise attacks!

Are you to stupid to read the rules here about personal attacks. Maybe you are just a little kid, you act like one. Either way keep it up and you can discuss it with the mod.

That is one of the most profound speeches I’ve ever heard. It is well worth the few minutes it takes to listen to it. Wow.

Look slow one, the year was 1980, newt was a little back woods freshman from Georgia, he could have written a letter to anyone, the odds of it getting past the Fourth string secretary, slim to none.

This was written in 1980, dimwit. What did you expect, a PDF? Follow the links, read the books, read something. Either that or have another glass of that 100 proof stupid you seem to be chugging and keep telling yourself how smart you are.

Seriously, aside from the current debate forums, there are dozens of Gingrich's speeches on line that are informative, educational and one gets an excellent read into what Gingrich is about. Unfortunately too many people are too intellectually lazy to research Gingrich accomplishments and instead focus their attention on the dirt.

Personally, I think Gingrich is the only candidate who who can whip Obama. (Palin could have.) The rest of the "top tier" are too slow or uninformed.

In reading that, without thinking about it, I could hear Newt speaking those words. It has his cadence and his succinct ability to cut to the core.

I thought the same except not so much for the cadence, but the logic organization and presentation style.

Mccain 2.0, same results, same results, same views except mccain only divorced once. Not enough freight engines around to pull that lard ass and his baggage across the line.

There are a few more in that series.

I've been cataloging a number myself and sending them off to my Conservative friends and the few liberals that I'm acquainted with.
