Reporting from Moscow — Over a bottle of vodka and a traditional Russian salad of pickles, sausage and potatoes tossed in mayonnaise, a group of friends raised their glasses and wished Igor Irtenyev and his family a happy journey to Israel.

Irtenyev, his wife and daughter insist they will just be away for six months, but the sadness in their eyes on this recent night said otherwise.

. . .

Experts believe that 100,000 to 150,000 people now leave the country annually and warn that the exodus reached dangerous dimensions in the last three years.

"People are going abroad for better college education, for better medical help, for better career opportunities, believing they will come back someday, but very few actually do," said Dmitry Oreshkin, a political analyst with the Institute of Geography. "The intellectual potential of the nation is being washed away, as the most mobile, intelligent and active are leaving."

We have a fairly good sized contingent here in Gwinnett county.

I only hope the Russians are not coming here to escape a police state. Poor choice. LOL!!

Don’t know if it is true, but have heard that Siberia and the Russian East have as many illegal Chinese immigrants as California has illegal Mexicans.

Yep, it’s hard to project even decades ahead, much less centuries.

My only experience with russians is that they are a bunch of lying, cheating thieves. We don’t need anymore of the bastards here. We’ve got too many as it is.

Oof, wouldn’t want to be sharing a cab with someone after they ate that, if you know what I mean...

Russians has all sorts of immigrants in every part of the country.
In fact US, Russia and Germany for some reason are top three most desired places to move.
As for 2010 US has 38.4 million immigrants, Russia has 12.1 million and Germany 10.1 million.
These three makes about 1/3 of immigrants hosted by next 200 nations on list, combined.

We have many former Soviet bloc electricians in our local electrical union. I get along with them fine. I’ve learned their lives revolve around their tight knit families and their Russian/Ukraine/Moldova/etc. churches.
