30,000 NE Ohio homes await demolition
MSNBC ^ | 11/21/11

Local lawmakers believe more federal demolition funds must be found to stop the dramatic drop in northeast Ohio property values.

Former Cuyahoga County Treasurer Jim Rokakis said he believes the number of condemned homes and buildings in northeast Ohio has ballooned to 30,000.

Rokakis blamed foreclosures and irresponsible banks, investment firms and individuals who have walked away or ignored their distressed properties.

The growth in vacant houses comes at a time when federal neighborhood stabilization funds, used to demolish these homes, will soon run dry.

Rokakis said vacant homes are one of the leading causes of a dramatic drop in regional property values.

"After 10 years of foreclosure crisis, we have an absolutely stunning drop in property values," said Rokakis. "This is not just the problem of the inner city, it's now become the problem of every homeowner in Cuyahoga County."

Rokakis pointed to a study by the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland...

If this were a Republican president, you would see this on the nightly news about once every five seconds. Does Obama get the same coverage? Kind of like the Reagan/Clinton homeless phenomena: there were millions of homeless under the heartless Reagan, but they all seemed to have disappeared under Bubba. The press is no longer free, as they are bound to their ideologies and personal biases.

“...homeowners to demand lower property taxes...”

I just finished up my appeal of the county’s valuation of my house for property taxes.
The process was not unlike a negotiation with a used car dealer.

I doubt those rowdy kids are going to test the various things for asbestos, lead, etc.

Or separate the copper from the galvanized pipes. And the concrete from the wood. Or dispose of the asbestos ceilings and tiles. And send all recyclables to the various plants (some overseas).

Ever since getting into the environmental field years ago, I knew what a drain it would be. The tons and tons of money fixing a “problem” and you don't get one thing out of it - just putting something back to “normal”.

The quotes are how big of a problem is it when someone is living in a home but it becomes vacant, you want to tear it down, and now it is this huge environmental problem? And how “normal” will these suburbs be anyway ever again? Bulldoze them into the basements, and cover them with a couple feet of dirt. Heck, maybe even let the crack-heads go after the pipes and wiring first if that makes you feel better about recycling.

Citydata shows 69% voted for Obama.

Dennis Kucinich is also the Congressional rep for a good portion of that area too. Tells me all I need to know about the voters there.

We have the homeless, and we have vacant homes. It’s a shame most of the homeless have been so tainted by drugs or by liberalism that there is no point in putting them into the unwanted homes awaiting demolition. Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Pelosi, and Obama have a lot to answer for.

To redistribute wealth, watch for Obama to play G-d and invoke a form of "Jubilee" before the elections, and literally give these homes away for $1 as a form of Homsteading for the "underserved"

Think I am crazy?

Look at the wealth transfer done @ GM from Bondholders to Unions etc and all the levers of power that are beholden to him post TARP and Porkulus, and the power of Fannie and Freddie....

Good. Around here, they anounced that the millage rate would go up, to compensate for an across-the board reduction in valuation.

Only, my valuation went up.

Crud.

Maybe they should just burn the homes to support prices - like they did with food under the New Deal AAA.

That is the answer I see them coming back with, an increase in the millage.

Or confiscate gold the way FDR did to ignite inflation with fiat money and raise the prices of everything.
