ACLU: Occupy MN has right to unrestricted use of public property — and free electricity, too

The American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota sued Hennepin County on Monday on behalf of OccupyMPLS, the protest group camping out on the Government Center Plaza in downtown Minneapolis in defiance of county rules.

The ACLU suit contends that those rules, which forbid tents and electricity, and “certain unwritten procedures enforced by the county” violate the demonstrators’ free speech rights. …

The suit asks that new rules restricting the use of chalk, electricity and tents be declared unconstitutional. The plaintiffs are also seeking an injunction against the rules, and they want the county to provide electricity for the protesters. It also asks that officials stop giving trespass notices to protesters who build temporary shelters or use chalk to express their views.

The county has said the plaza is not designed for long-term occupation and that the restrictions adopted earlier this month are needed because of health and safety concerns and increased security costs.

That’s kind of what I’ve been wondering since I heard about the LA Occupy being rented office space for $1. If the mayor isn’t willing to do the same for any other group (or, the Tea Party), then isn’t that to be considered discrimination of some sort?

If a Republican is elected that person will face a concerted insurgency run by the democrat party you will see violence against Republican supporters while the Republican party elites will refuse to hold the RAT party accountable for the violence .

The elites of the Republican party is to spineless & lazy to even defend the idea that you the individual are free & should remain free as opposed to being a slave of a socialist government.

time, place and manner....all constitutional.

I bet they have no problem with the DNC protest zones which are out of sight out of mind during conventions.

The tea party is owed a refund big time.

My concern is that they hope to nullify the elderly vote by scaring enough of them into staying home.

I remember during the cold war, it was “you do not have constitutional rights in order to abolish constitutional rights.”

MSNBC does not have freedom of the press in order to abolish freedom of the press. They are the enemy.

“won’t be long before RT Rybak wants to one-up the mayor of L.A. and rent them city hall for a dollar.”

Let's hope that sect doesn't have any union or Soros money. They'll have trouble coming up with that amount....

Not just convince people to stay home but to threaten & intimidate any who dare to disagree with them . this election season will be known for its blood shed I fear .

The pocket pistol, the stiletto , collapsible baton/sap will be handy items to have if you a Republican campaign volunteer/worker,this will be a election marked by Democrat party violence against Republicans.

meanwhile the elites of the GOP will refuse to to do anything beyond make half hearted complaints.
