Gingrich May Have Inside Track on Palin's Endorsement
Real Clear Politics ^ | 2011-11-23 | Scott Conroy

Almost immediately upon Sarah Palin's announcement that she would not seek the Republican nomination for president, the phone calls from almost all of the GOP candidates began pouring in. They wanted her endorsement.

While Palin has characteristically kept her cards close to her chest, advisers suggest that the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee is likely to endorse before someone emerges as the inevitable nominee -- and that Newt Gingrich appears to be best-positioned to secure her support.

"They speak very favorably of Newt and what they see as his credentials as compared to Perry and Romney," one member of Palin's inner circle said of the former Alaska governor and her husband, Todd, who has long served as her unofficial chief adviser.

Gingrich has been particularly effusive in expressing his admiration for Palin over the last few months, and she has returned the favor by heaping praise on the former House speaker.

"Newt Gingrich again, I think, did the best because he seems to be above a lot of the bickering that goes on," Palin said on Fox News after a Republican debate in Las Vegas last month, adding that Gingrich would “clobber” President Obama in a general election debate.

Of all the people on the stage, I trust Newt the least.

Yes, it’s true. What was his wife’s life like for the 6 years he was cheating on her with Callista? Newt is getting cocky but I doubt he will make it to the nomination.

Cain could quietly get up to the top again. He is so much more trustworthy and I think he cares for us conservative voters far more than newt does.

> So you seriously think if a MORE conservative candidate ran he would have beaten Obama in 2008?

McCain got his bottom handed to him, because the GOP put up a liberal leaning wimp. There are more real conservatives in the USA than you think. The problem is that few of them are in politics. Of course we need a MORE conservative candidate.

Something tells me that Sarah Palin doesn’t want to be second banana on any campaign.

We’ll (hopefully) see her again in 2016.

That’s too bad because Palin wants the best candidate in the forefront to take Obama out. I hope she does support Newt....but nobody should vote based on who supports a candidate. It’s simply the gravy when they do.

Sarah and Perry are very close due to energy policies, energy is a huge
factor in our economy and JOBS. Perry may not be a great debater, but
EVERYTHING that comes out of the mouth of the “the chosen one” is a lie ALL class warfare!!!!!! I believe Sarah will endorse Perry, I do not believe Perry is out of this race yet!!! I personally am still behind Cain
1000%, Steve Winn on Hannity last night repeated my belief completely
CHARACTER is the most important trait for the office!!!!! All the rest comes from strong advisors. I believe Cain CAN beat Obama the people
are absolutely sick of politicians and corruption. We need common sense
and CHARACTER. Get back on the Cain train how can he possibly win
if we all just throw him under the bus for foreign policy knowledge, how can we expect him to be a genius in foreign policy, I THOUGHT WE ALL WANTED AN OUTSIDER a government of the people!!!!!!

Character, Intelligence and ELECTABILITY. Simply, these 3 things seem to matter most to the majority of the GOP.
Unfortunately, the Conservative faction will have to compromise in this 2012 election as we have done in the past.
I see no one right now that satisfies all 3 traits. To my fellow freepers whining about all the whining, It's a Primary, it happens every 4 years, I would have surmised that you'd be use to it by now. Since the media won't properly Vet our candidates, We will. It's not a pleasant journey, but someones got to do it.

I’m with you.

Still miffed, I confess to having gone from uber-enthusiastic early Palin supporter to now Palin basher, just to work off my own frustration with her bailing from the race.

However if Palin is still determined (not) to run I believe Palin should early on, ...

1) APOLOGIZE to her supporters.

2) Pick a candidate she most closely agrees with and endorse that candidate.

3) Arrange for that candidate to “leak” they’re going to select Palin as their running mate.

Primary over. Obama defeated in 11.5 months. Without Palin having to have been through the media/Alinsky axis mudslinging.

America begins to turn around, immediately.

Best candidate and Newt do not belong in the same sentence in my opinion. Newt and reliable conservative are also words that should not be uttered together, save when accompanied by a “not”.

President Gingrich will appoint Palin as Energy Department Director in charge of dismantling.

Now that's a sweet thought! I'm up for it!

Are you suggesting that she was lying?

I certainly hope not. If she endorses him, I shall have lost respect for her.

No, I'm suggesting that when you're on a presidential ticket you have to support your running-mate's platform, even if you disagree with important aspects of it.

It's why you didn't see Bob Dole decrying supply side economics after he selected Jack Kemp in 1996.

So she did duty and lied to the interviewer and the American people, huh?

Show me anywhere where she has retracted anything she said during that interview and show me any quote where her current position on immigration is any different from Newt's (other than that SHE advocated a path to CITIZENSHIP, whereas Newt has indicated that these people should NEVER be given citizenship.)

Do your research and get back to me. Until then all evidence points to the fact that Sarah Palin and Newt are on the same page with this one.

The fact of the matter is that Sarah Palin is not the Xenophobe that you think she is. She is a realist and the reality is that we are not going to deport 12 million illegal aliens. She knows it. Newt knows it. Every single candidate in the field knows it.

Newt has proposed a reasonable solution.

Sarah Palin proposed the same solution.
