5.56 round was picked to wound the opponent, to tie up his resources. I prefer the 7.62x51 M14 (.308) round that was picked to kill the opponent. The civilian version is the M1A. A pretty rifle indeed.
A STHT varient is the short barreled SOCOM

I am about to trade in a few guns to get the SA Socom 16. Trading in a Saiga 12, GSG5, Remi 870’, to get one of those.

I thought the same thing - could really BE a “Black Friday”.

Oh yeah? Well what gun magazines have YOU written for!?!?Too busy going on patrol to write for a magazine. lol
I'll never get used to the "gun snobs" that think the only way to kill a person is a direct hit from a tank round.
Probably a very politically incorrect example, but that psycho that killed 14 people in Arizona back in January did it with a 9mm pistol. Every gun snob I've ever heard thinks the 9mm bullet is completely useless against a person. Yeah right.

Yeah, like the guy who owns the place doesn’t consider it his own SHTF survival plan. If something happens, the doors lock and the claymores come out.

5.56 round was picked to wound the opponentYou're absolutely right. The 5.56 bullet will wound a person.
He'll be wounded for a little while, then die.

Oh, and the M1A and the SOCOM variant are awesome rifles. No doubt about it. I was going to purchase last year.
However, the M1A is at LEAST $1,400 and the SOCOM is quite a bit more.
.308 ammo is quite expensive as well.
In this economy, I don't know too many folks willing to spend that much cash on a high powered rifle.

"I've never read anything about a spontaneous movement like this during the Depression." Telephones were still a novelty for most people, TV was an Oddity for most of the Depression. And Computers was the stuff of science fiction at the time.
People are more aware of the problems of the world in present day with the 24 hour news cycle and the rapid spread of info via the Internet.

As another FReeper pointed out, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near the place if something bad happens. Unless he’s got quality bars on the windows, locking the doors won’t matter. During the King riots in L.A., several armed men had to stand guard on the roof to prevent a firearms dealer from being looted.

If I’m far enough away that a 308 confers a clear advantage, I’m far enough away to disengage.
And my 556 goes for about 2k...

I don’t like the saga 12. It has cycling issues. GSG5 is a toy. Remi 870? I already have a benelli and a mossberg.

OTOH, you can stick around and battle zombies with the rest of us;) Have you seen "The Walking Dead"? I love that show. I think I should get the video game to practice.

That is what I was thinking. Quality over quantity.

Marxism scares sane people because we’ve seen this movie over and over and always hate how it ends.
To: GlockThe Vote
I may not agree with your doctrine, but I sure can’t argue your taste.
I reserve my .308 endeavors to a fat barreled bolt action. That stuff is too damn heavy to sprinkle around the landscape like an assault rifle to my mind.

I came in to a Remington 660 Mohawk .308 and am trying to make it into a tactical rifle. But it’s bolt action.
I prefer semi-auto.

Let me put in a plug for some friends of mine at SurviveUSA in northeastern Arkansas, near Evening Shade. They are doing land-office business. www.surviveusa.com Site comes up as "Under Construction"
