Long term illegal residents would pay a $5000 dollar fine and meet a number of other conditions or be deported. Some reward.

Thanks for bringing that info to my attention! I’ll look around to see if I can find a good source somewhere.

We’re electing a President, not a benevolent dictator.

That’s why you’re getting that response.

I have read the Gingrich plan on immigration. It is terrible and filled with a number of inaccuracies and misinformation. I can go over the three principles and ten solutions one by one and demonstrate how screwed up it is. I have been working on this issue for five years as part of a grassroots organization that lobbies on the Hill and in Richmond. If you are really interested, I will go over the problems with Newt's plan in great detail.

Here are some examples of why Newt's plan is a disaster.

Secure the border. 40% of the 12 to 20 million illegals come here legally and overstay their visas. Securing the border only solves part of the problem. And Newt's lowballing of the numbers, 8 to 11 million illegals, reflects his either lack of knowledge or desire to minimize the problem. Even the USG says there are 11 million.

Create a path to earned legality for some of the millions of people who are here outside the law. This is amnesty. He can try to disguise it by saying they won't have a path to citizenship, but allowing them to stay and work here is amnesty. He uses the same language and terms as Obama/McCain, e.g., pay a fine, learn English, etc. His citizen review process by local communities is laughable. Can one imagine how this would be organized by sanctuary cities like LA. The criteria provided to determine who can and cannot stay are just garbage and unenforceable. I could go on and on about how ridiculous this portion of the plan is.

Deportation of criminals and gang members should be efficient and fast. This comes right out the McCain-Kennedy bill about deporting "criminal illegal aliens" and allowing the rest to be legalized. McCain said they should be deported "immediately" and the number was estimated at 2 million. I guess it is possible to deport 2 million immediately but not 8 to 11 million.

Obama is currently doing something similar bypassing Congress. He is reviewing the 300,000 cases currently awaiting deportation and separating out the "criminal" aliens from the rest who will have the charges dropped and be provided with work permits. Right now we have 8 million illegal aliens filling jobs while 25 million Americans are looking for fulltime employment. And we are bringing in 125,000 LEGAL FOREIGN WORKERS A MONTH RIGHT NOW in the midst of this economic downturn. Obama should be impeached for circumventing Congress on his back door amnesty.

Newt's plan will be dissected and destroyed over the next few weeks. He is pushing the pro-amnesty agenda of the Chamber of Commerce, Catholic Church, SEIU, La Raza and the Democrats. Each has a vested interest in keeping the flow of cheap, exploitable labor into this country and changing our demographics that will result in the Dems being the permanent majority party. They have been quite successful since the 1965 Immigration Act.

Do we really need 1.2 million legal immigrants every year, 87% of whom are minorities from the Third World? We are importing hundreds of thousands of high school dropouts annually, legally and illegally.

We have 300,000 to 400,000 anchor babies born each year to illegals. They receive all the benefits of American citizens thru birthright citizenship. And almost 52% of legal immigrants are receiving welfare benefits. We are importing poverty. Milton Friedman said that, “You cannot simultaneously have free immigration and a welfare state.” We have both. Newt's sophistry about keeping the new class of LPR's from using welfare is just more of his ivory tower view of the world that doesn't resemble reality. This new class will be entitled to Medicaid, food stamps etc. just like our current LPRs and legal immigrants. Does anyone think we will deny medical treatment or food to the indigent? Or that the courts would allow a second class LPR? Or that they won't qualify for EITC payments or subsidies under Obamacare?

$5,000 for the privilege of living and working in America, sending your children to our schools, taking advantage of medical services, etc is cheap. There are literally billions in this world who would like to make such a payment.

I don’t want a benevolent dictator. We already have a malevolent dictator. Your desire for one who will ignore the laws on the books and be more humane/benevolent is at the heart of the problem. This is a republic. I don’t need a dictator. Just a president who will enforce the laws that we as a sovereign nation have already agreed are necessary.

The liberal response I get from you and a few other libs is because there are at least two too many RINOs spouting liberal ideas around here.

I have read it. You and your RINO buddy I’ve been corresponding with seem to think liberal ideas are OK. Perhaps you can tell me how creating special committees and big govt. to handle all the special cases is conservative. Your buddy hasn’t been able to turn that sows ear into a purse yet. Since the whole thing sounds like Newt is about to establish a brand new cabinet level department with billions of dollars budgeted. Why you people would think that would be acceptable to conservatives is totally beyond me.

My statement about illegals and citizenship was made precisely because I know that illegals don’t want citizenship. To say that Newt is not giving it to them is to say nothing. So Newt is proposing not to do something they didn’t want anyway. Big deal!

Guess what? Doing anything other than what the law currently states to do with them is giving them amnesty. So you and Newt want amnesty for illegals. So does Obama, either all at once or by RINO increment assisted by the courts. Every last one of you amnesty lovers knows where you can go.

What is hidden is that Newt thinks the first amnesty was a mistake. He thinks it was such a mistake that he’s proposing the same thing all over again. Fool me once Newt, shame on you. Fool me twice Newt? It ain’t going to happen.

Also, severely cut back on LEGAL immigration from Mexico. I have read that Mexico alone accounts for 20 to 25% of legal immigration. Why is one nation given so much priviledge?

This shows how the elites are totally out of touch with the average person. It is not *inhumane* to them, that you cannot provide for your family. Americans are just not as cute and loveable as illegals.

Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry inadvertently opened a window on how rich elitist politicians really think. These people have sold out whatever principles they once might have had, and no longer have a thing in common with their fellow Americans.

I'm sick to death of listening to them expertly deliver their made-to-order blather for conservative consumption. I'm convinced they don't mean a single word of it, but have learned the tune, and can do the dance, to make us think they're with us.

As another Freeper said today, "Forget the talk - watch the walk." I don't give a damn what they say in these debates. It's how they've voted, who they've supported, and what they've actually done in their lives that tells me who they really are.

My desire is for someone to kick Obama’s butt.

Who are you supporting?

[ Bachmann’s “Plan” such as it is, is almost indistinguishable in effect from Newt’s. It just has a lot less detail and a lot of holes in it she hasn’t answered. ]

Every plan has holes in it... The Constitution has holes in it..
Bachmann is not for amnesty..

Gingrich is for gerrymandered amnesty.. as are all the male candidates.. except Ron Paul who whines like a little girl..

It costs more than that to pay a coyote to smuggle you over the border.

Millions of Americans are have an epiphany about what many politicians are really like.

About Gingrich, he may be smart but the Mr. Hyde side of smartness is craftiness. There are many smart people in Washington but unfortunately, they use their smartness against us instead of using it for our benefit.
