Obama Leaves God out of Thanksgiving Speech, Riles Critics
By JOEL SIEGEL | ABC News 6 hours ago
Critics of President Obama felt little holiday cheer after the president did not thank God in his Thanksgiving-themed weekly Internet address. They immediately took to Twitter and the Internet to voice anger and disbelief.
"Holy cow! Is that one screwed up or what?" columnist Sherman Frederick of the Las Vegas Review-Journal wrote in a Thanksgiving-morning blog post.
"Somebody ought to remind Obama (and his speechwriter) that when Americans sit down around a meal today and give thanks, they give thanks to God."
Over on the website of Fox News Radio, radio host Todd Starnes also took issue.
"His remarks were void of any religious references, although Thanksgiving is a holiday traditionally steeped in giving thanks and praise to God," Starnes wrote.

From my family to yours, Id like to wish you a happy Thanksgiving. Like millions of Americans, Michelle, Malia, Sasha and I will spend the day eating great food, watching a little football, and reflecting on how truly lucky we truly are.
As Americans, each of us has our own list of things and people to be thankful for. But there are some blessings we all share.
Were especially grateful for the men and women who defend our country overseas. To all the service members eating Thanksgiving dinner far from your families: the American people are thinking of you today. And when you come home, we intend to make sure that we serve you as well as youre serving America.
Were also grateful for the Americans who are taking time out of their holiday to serve in soup kitchens and shelters, making sure their neighbors have a hot meal and a place to stay. This sense of mutual responsibility the idea that I am my brothers keeper; that I am my sisters keeper has always been a part of what makes our country special. And its one of the reasons the Thanksgiving tradition has endured.
The very first Thanksgiving was a celebration of community during a time of great hardship, and we have followed that example ever since. Even when the fate of our union was far from certain during a Civil War, two World Wars, a Great Depression Americans drew strength from each other. They had faith that tomorrow would be better than today.
Were grateful that they did. As we gather around the table, we pause to remember the pilgrims, pioneers, and patriots who helped make this country what it is. They faced impossible odds, and yet somehow, they persevered. Today, its our turn.
I know that for many of you, this Thanksgiving is more difficult than most. But no matter how tough things are right now, we still give thanks for that most American of blessings, the chance to determine our own destiny. The problems we face didnt develop overnight, and we wont solve them overnight. But we will solve them. All it takes is for each of us to do our part.
With all the partisanship and gridlock here in Washington, its easy to wonder if such unity is really possible. But think about whats happening at this very moment: Americans from all walks of life are coming together as one people, grateful for the blessings of family, community, and country.
If we keep that spirit alive, if we support each other, and look out for each other, and remember that were all in this together, then I know that we too will overcome the challenges of our time.
So today, Im thankful to serve as your President and Commander-and-Chief. Im thankful that my daughters get to grow up in this great country of ours. And Im thankful for the chance to do my part, as together, we make tomorrow better than today.
Thanks, and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Now why would he do that, him being a Christian and all?
Perhaps it is better that way.
At least, he did not blaspheme.
If you truly thought you were G-d, would you say Thank G-d, or just Thanks?
Interesting that Newt also did it. I'm not surprised at Romney disregarding God.
The first Thanksgiving was a “celebration of community”? What? Does this moron know nothing about our history? Obviously not. And, did you notice, he made the sign of the cross when he pardoned the turkey? I’m not Catholic, but if I were I’d be offended. He mocks everything; he insults everyone who disagrees with him; and he ridicules our traditions. How does he have any standing at all in the polls?
WHEREAS it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favour; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me "to recommend to the people of the United States a DAY OF PUBLICK THANKSGIVING and PRAYER, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:"
NOW THEREFORE, I do recommend and assign THURSDAY, the TWENTY-SIXTH DAY of NOVEMBER next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed;-- for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish Constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted;-- for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge;-- and, in general, for all the great and various favours which He has been pleased to confer upon us.
And also, that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions;-- to enable us all, whether in publick or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shewn kindness unto us); and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.
GIVEN under my hand, at the city of New-York, the third day of October, in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and eighty-nine.

Three of the Republican presidential candidates Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum issued Thanksgiving statements that omitted any references to God. Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain and Rick Perry mentioned God in their statements.
“Thanks, and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.”

He probably thinks we should give ‘thanks’ to him. What an a$$hat.
My thought of the day-
God damn Barack Obama.
troublemaker. :)
What I really wan to know is: Did Dear Leader serve a halal Butterball at the Whitehouse?
How about “Thanks to you, Mr. President, my family is living on the streets.”
he made that sign-of-the-cross with his left hand, awkwardly
I’m certain the insult was not lost on his delighted muslim backers
Celebration of community is a fancy way of saying communism. Ironically the first Thanksgiving was a celebration that was made possible by the end of communism.
Thank you Kabar for finding this and posting it. I had placed a copy of it many years ago in a book since lost. This is one of the most eloquent, humble, inspirational prayers of thanks I’ve ever read.If this don’t give pause for thought to the “separation of church and state” proponent, they are truly spiritually blinded...they just don’t have a clue.
This is clearly not an accident. Omitting God from his Thanksgiving speech was a purposeful insult directed at those of us he despises, those who cling to God and to guns and to that pesky Constitution that gets in his way. He realizes he will not get the vote of any patriotic American, and he is trying to motivate his natural constituents from OWS to support him.
