At least someone is making money in these difficult times. Arms dealers in Lebanons Bekaa Valley are making out like, well, bandits as unrest in Syria sends black market gun prices through the roof says this story in Lebanons Daily Star. Rocket grenade launchers appear to be the hottest investment grade item, with prices more than sextupling from $400 to $2500 in recent months. Kalashnikovs and M16s are also up sharply, with 75 percent appreciation on the Russian guns and 100 percent on the US model.
Perhaps more investments in Lebanese arms dealer funds could rescue US state and municipal pension funds; those are the kind of returns states like New York, Illinois, California and Rhode Island need to avoid massive service and benefit cuts in the years ahead.
But what this news really means, of course, is that more and more people in Syria and Lebanon are preparing for all out civil war. Religious and ethnic divides half forgotten during the long decades when the dictatorship was secure are now beginning to revive as the Assad clan looks weak.
This is the pattern I saw at work in Yugoslavia and the Caucasus twenty years ago as ethnic groups geared up to butcher their neighbors and drive them from their homes; I will never forget the night a Georgian poet asked me how much guns cost on the Istanbul black market; he was arming himself against what he called the Abkhazian menace.
I made a note to myself at that time: when poets buy guns, tourist season is over. They are buying them now in Damascus; something wicked this way comes.
Those guys are smart and really stay up on both new and old loads.

Not me. I don’t have any guns. They are evil and not needed for anything just like the govt. says.

It does look like a model 66. I have one of the originals with the cylinder recesses in 2.5in. Great for shooting at night when a flash is needed to take a quality picture at the same time!
Cabelas has been having spectacular sales on some of the better .22 bulk ammo. I have seen the Federal 36 grain HP high velocity 375 round bulk pack on sale for $9.99. That is only 2.6 cents a round. Reviews of the Federal ammo have been quite good. The Cabelas sale seems to be an on again, off again type of thing. I have seen it on for several weeks of the last three months.
I purchased several thousand rounds as I used up the last of the Remington Peters .22 that I bought about 1980. Thirty year old .22 ammo worked great.
Where did you get it?
Nice collection, BTW.
“Is that an original TT-33 there bottom right, or a Type 54? “
To me, it looks like a Colt 1903 in .32 or .380.
That's a question with no 'right' answer. As its all dependent on 'you'.
For some it'll be a 12ga Pump Shotgun, while to others that would be the 100% wrong weapon. Ditto on a .45 Auto, or any semi-auto handgun for that matter. It gets down to:
A GOOD Gun Shop with certified instructors and/or knowledgeable salesmen can help in all the above. Plus, read all you can on Firearms of every type. (Tons of info at your fingertips.)
A big honking 'Hand Cannon' will do you zero good if you can't hit your target with it. Or if a 12ga Shotgun will knock you on your behind from the recoil. Or if you drop them after the 1st shot from your Arthritis.
Now THAT’S what I call “Coexist”!;)
I've actually had the exact same thought.
When the ethnic wars begin in CA, and I have no doubt one day they will, the guilty white...unarmed...liberals will be the first to be driven from their homes and their women raped.
LOL!!!!!
(I’ve noticed a lot of people missing the joke, that’s almost as funny as the joke itself!)
One of my “super” Wal-Marts here have had similar prices, if not better. Strange that they don’t sell firearms anymore.
You are right. If it gets bad enough a 22 round will put food on the table. Gold won’t.
Here in Central Missouri they do.
