Very detailed explanation of everything - except the power source.

Is it solar like the last two which means a possible extended life - or something else.

AThis is remarkable. Is there an animated rendition of the flight and landing?

How long will it take until it arrives on Mars?

Also, what happens to the sky crane once Curiosity is dropped off? Does it fly off?

This is incredible....

Thank you.

Looks like it will arrive August, 2012. INteresting, as it might be an issue for the election. Clearly again we will listen to someone, like Newt, who undestands the inpact of space exploration and the idiot in the white house.

Will be nuclear powered.

The sky crane will fly off after depositing the rover. Hopefully all those landing tethers will dislodge nicely.

Mars seems to be the Bermuda triangle of space. The Russians have lost better than a dozen mars bound craft themselves.

Clean sun power was quickly rejected as unable to produce sufficient power. I doubt wind power was ever considered.

I’m standing in the parking lot of the VAB waiting to see the launch right now. A few sprinkles and some wind but they apparently don’t think it’s a problem.

AtlasV? Surely Oblast Off would choose to collaborate with his Chinese friends.

According to one ancient legend, a Chinese official named Wan-Hoo attempted a flight to the moon using a large wicker chair to which were fastened 47 large rockets. Forty seven assistants, each armed with torches, rushed forward to light the fuses. In a moment there was a tremendous roar accompanied by billowing clouds of smoke. When the smoke cleared, the flying chair and Wan-Hoo were gone.

Ise gotts da chair. There are syrplus Fourth of July rockets. Maybe Obluster would like to be the first prez in space!

I think that they're considered to be "no deposit, no return" items.

Mind you, Mythbusters busted that legend in no time flat (it was one of the more memorable episodes of that series).
