...

The new CBA, released Tuesday, added the words “sexual orientation” to its section on discrimination. This development was first reported by the Daily News, and later confirmed by a news release, issued jointly by MLB and the Players’ Association, that read, “Non-discrimination based on sexual orientation were added to Article XV.”

Article XV, Section A of MLB’s expiring Basic Agreement, in effect from 2006-2011, states: “The provisions of this Agreement shall be applied to all Players covered by this Agreement without regard to race, color, religion or national origin.”

In the new agreement, the words “sexual orientation” were added to Article XV. Michael Weiner, the union’s executive director, said that the decision was not motivated by requests from his membership, but by “the lawyers on both sides just recognizing that it should be there.”

Hit .350 or have an ERA below 3.0 and you will pull down at least six million a year and no one will care about your orientation.

So if you yell out from the bleachers “Arod’s got a girly arm” they now arrest you?

Those zombie guys from Field of Dreams are turning over in their graves.

Looks like that ‘It Gets Better’ program will be infecting the rest of MLB in short order...

Well, all the joking aside, sports is probably the last prominent area of life with no openly homosexual people.

Correction - there are some open lesbians in the Women’s NBA.

But among men, are there any openly gay players? I heard about a couple of players who we learned were gay after their playing careers were over.

It could get real confusing with transexual players,
how would you know who was pitching to whom???

I am sure there are and have always been gay players in sports, but being open to the point of media attention has not happened.

The players would know, as would management and the sports media, but no one would talk about it.

All I can say is, play the game well, and no one will care what you are. If there’s any cure to people wondering what a player or entertainer is, it’s how well they do at what they do. If someone can hit plenty of homers, have a good batting average, or pitch a good number of strike-outs, no one will care what they do it private.

I am sure there were, and are homosexual players in baseball, however, as you said, most of them had little need to flame it at everyone, just because perhaps at least some of them got the idea that if you could at least play the game well, the audience would respect you almost completely regardless of whatever else there is to know about you. There may have been some players that made it known, but a lot of that easily gets forgotten by a guy like me who sees the player and the plays more than anything else.

Major League Baseball.

I can’t remember the last time I heard about any poofters on the diamond, but again probably nobody cared. It was baseball that fans cared about. They’d surely draw the line at molested children, but how adults entertained themselves off the diamond was not even worthy of the fans’ note. This is feelgood redundancy, but it’s pernicious too because it gives poofter advocacy something more to brag about.

Gayness would naturally be less likely in sports, especially in this AIDS/HIV era. Not good news for any athlete.

It is a rather empty protection as in sports, performance is the only thing that counts and that is the way it should be.

Women’s NBA appeals to anyone who isn’t an open lesbian? :?
