'Anthrax isn't scary at all compared to this': Man-made flu virus with potential to wipe out...
The Daily Mail (UK) ^ | November 28 | Staff

A group of scientists is pushing to publish research about how they created a man-made flu virus that could potentially wipe out civilisation. The deadly virus is a genetically tweaked version of the H5N1 bird flu strain, but is far more infectious and could pass easily between millions of people at a time. The research has caused a storm of controversy and divided scientists, with some saying it should never have been carried out.

His last -great- book.

I always wonder if it wasn’t divinely inspired.

Laugh if you will, but I swore I saw the Walking Dude on a stage back on the night of November 4, 2008. It was his eyes gave him away - cold, dead and soulless behind a smile so superficial it could almost evaporate like ether. And I knew, too as his adoring crowd wept and cheered they had no real idea who this man might be, knowing as they did precisely nothing about him but the shimmering image each had concocted for themselves, composed of inchoate hope, release from responsibility, and a secret desire for unearned things.

Me?

*Laugh*?

Look up my old posts from a year before then.

I was on the bleeding edge of that comparison.

Many was the time I referred to him as The Dark Man and it had nothing to do with his skin and my posts about his “dead eyes” got me much grief.

I still stand by those posts...no pun intended.

Frankly, I was waiting for him to move DC to Nevada.

I intended the "laugh if you will" only as a means of rhetorical introduction, because I truly meant what followed. The man truly has dead eyes of a kind I have seen that before and it never, ever fails to signal something dark beneath. My wife said the same thing the first time she saw him - and she is less given to exaggeration than anyone I know.

Unlike Randall Flagg, I doubt Obama would gravitate toward Vegas; it's just not his style. Oakland, perhaps...

After the initial derision, other FReepers admitted to the same feelings of dread and foreboding.

It ended up that a *lot* of people were getting the same “vibe”.

Can’t imagine that’s a good thing...or unfounded.

He is evil....and that’s not a word I toss around blithely.

Apparently our Dark Man has found enough rabid followers in DC to keep it as a home base.

Given a choice between spending the night trapped with *him* or Charlie Manson, I’d choose the latter, cheerfully.

Seriously.

There is an easy way to confirm this.

Hey Randall, where were you on November 4, 2008?
