A lot of stupid and uninformed people vote. That’s the scariest facet of our system. The fact that we have survived so long is proof of the miraculous power of the law of averages to balance out their impact and the wisdom of our Founding Fathers in designing the system as they did—not as a democracy, but as a republic.

Along those lines in Au it is compulsory to vote. If you don't you are fined.

“A lot of stupid and uninformed people vote. That’s the scariest facet of our system.”

I can imagine the very same words were posted over at some sewer of a lib blog; DU, etc. when a conservative wins.

In fact, one could make the argument that the people who are voting themselves $$ out of the public treasury are ‘smart’, in the sense of ‘greedy smart’...still, stupid in the long run - for killing the golden goose.

They are just gaming the system to their advantage (and the Republic’s disadvantage).

So, it’s not that stupidity is so scary... it’s institutionalized sloth and greed. Go spend an hour or so in a wic office, or any other place the entitlement crowd signs up for bennies. Follow the one that swipes the foodstamp ‘card’ for groceries out to the parking lot...

They’ve got more ‘stuff’ than most of the rest of us do. Sorry, FRiend. Didn’t mean to make your head explode :)
