Wall Street executives already are bracing for the possibility that Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) will take over as the senior Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee from Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.).
Waters is in line for Franks spot and could become chairwoman of the panel if Democrats retake the House. Frank will announce Monday that he will not seek another term in the House.
The California liberal is seen as to the left of Frank, the architect of 2010s Wall Street reform bill, on financial issues.
While banks and other financial institutions often battled Frank, he was seen as someone they could work with. Waters, in contrast, is seen as more of an opponent.
She's not a good face of the issues, one financial executive said. She's too much of a bomb thrower.
There are reasons to think Democratic leaders would look to someone other than Waters, the second-ranking Democrat on the panel, to take over for Frank.
Waters is wrestling with a long-running ethics investigation over whether she helped secure federal funding for a bank in which her husband owned stock and previously served as a board member. Waters has maintained her innocence, and two attorneys on the House ethics committee were placed on leave for mishandling the case. An outside attorney is now investigating the matter.
They're going to go with people who are universally respected, said the financial executive. But a trade group president and former Hill staffer believed the top spot is Waters's to lose. This source pointed out that Waters brings geographical and racial diversity to the committee.
Jumping over Waters to another Democrat would also be a headache for Democratic leaders, as it would risk angering the Congressional Black Caucus.
This oughta’ be a hoot!
Good! Put this reprobate right up there, front and center! The voting public needs to have a daily dose of this cretin.
An act of God needs to happen before this does!
Don’t they have at least ONE person who is not under investigation one way or the other?
Hey, that’s great!
Go from lying, evil bitch to lying, evil bitch.
Who would believe there would be a down side of getting rid of Barney Frank?
If the RNC doesn’t make a scary campaign about this racist moron, who steers business to her husband’s company, running that powerful committee, they are truly incompetent.
So the Maxine fans won’t vote Republican, DUH.
i hope someone has something on Frank, forcing him out.
She’s more extreme and polarizing. (and stupid!)
Not nearly as politically adept or connected as Barney.
(hunt for silver lining alert!)
From the frying pan to the fire ...
She'll bow out as well ... especially when we take the triple crown.
God help us all...
Traitorous Marxist globalist idiots.
Like putting a fox in charge of Col Sanders’ chicken farm.
Cluelessness has become a new growth industry.
“i hope someone has something on Frank, forcing him out.”
Like what, a drug bust or running a gay male prostitution ring out of his house?
Special interest group politics finally coming home to bite the Dems on the ass..Look for Clyburn to run for Minority leader..and since the Dems will not dump the seniority rules, most of the ranking members in 2012 will be members of the CBC..IOW..dumb as rocks..
If the thought of Maxime Waters as chairman of the House banking committee during an Obama second term doesn't send shivers down your back (and crater your 401K), nothing will.
