“How do you feel about Newt’s stance on illegals?”

It’s not pretty and isn’t going to get accolades among conservatives, but it’s realistic. The Federal Government is not and probably should not spend significant resources chasing down illegals who have been here long term. I prefer the “self deport” option anyway. Arizona got it right; target the employers, and the illegals leave.

This talk about immigration is misplaced. We’re looking at the wrong door; it’s time to start looking at the talented entrepreneurs within the U.S. who are picking up their marbles and heading for the exits.

I agree with you on that. I've made no secret of the fact that I am a Perry supporter. I guess what I'm trying to say - is for people to give Perry another look. None of the candidates are perfect, and all of them have holes big enough to drive a truck through. BUT, if people can overlook Newt's flaws so that Romney can be defeated - why not put your support behind a candidate that has a proven pro-business, pro-states rights, pro-social conservative issues, record?

Perry's no debate-savant like Gingrich is - but as I pointed out up-thread - the media is never going to let Gingrich beat Obama in a debate. It's just not going to happen, so the debate prowess point is a moot point in my opinion. Perry has a proven record to put up against Obama's - I'm just asking - would you give Perry another look? Or just not rush to support another candidate until you've honestly looked at the pros and cons of each of them?

It seems like there is a group of people I see here on FR and in my everyday life - that just flits from one candidate to another. They seem to choose the candidate that the media is nudging (flavor of the week) and then when that candidate starts getting torn down - they flit to the next 'golden child'.

It's getting late in the process, conservatives need to start coalescing behind one candidate. We need to stop sampling the flavors of the week and make an intelligent, reasoned choice based on reality, and not a scenario we dream it will be.

I don't want to argue about this, I'm just expressing my opinion. I would like for us to stop with the circular firing squads here, stop with the personal insults, stop with the emotional attachments - AND - start debating among ourselves in a way that we can open ourselves to rational decisions. Have a good day everyone!
