Allen West: Cain should 'move on' and exit the GOP presidential race
The Hill ^ | 11/30/2011 | By Alicia M. Cohn

Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) said Wednesday he would advise Herman Cain to let voters “move on” from the distraction of his campaign.

Cain told his campaign this week it is time to “reassess” in light of the resurfacing of old sexual harassment allegations and new accusations this week that he carried on a 13-year affair.

"Beyond reassessing his campaign, he probably needs to understand that he is a distracter for what's going on right now and we should move on," West told WMAL’s radio show “Morning Majority.”

West, a Tea Party favorite, indicated Cain is already out of the running and the GOP nomination field has come down to “a two-man race.”

He named Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich, currently the front-runners in the polls, as the two most likely contenders. West said Romney, who has polled at around 24 percent nationally for months, has “hit a plateau” and called Gingrich, who came up from well behind to become a front-runner within the last few weeks, “very viable” as a candidate.

“Speaker Gingrich is the next in line for conservatives who are looking for someone who is not Mitt Romney,” he said. "But he does have that 200-pound rucksack on his back with a lot of the personal baggage that people are going to come at him about.”

Gingrich reportedly mentioned West, along with Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), earlier this week as possible vice presidential candidates on his hypothetical ticket.

West said he would have to pray about and discuss the opportunity with his family, but he promised: “If I can make a difference, then I'll answer that call.”

His departure would simply embolden the liberal smear machine to double down on all the other candidates.

Not to mention giving them the idea that their virulent racism is justified and successful.

How does it make sense to suggest Cain drop out of the race, before the primaries have started?

Unless you’re a RINO carrying water for the establishment GOP?

I agree. Cain needs to do all of us a favor - especially his poor wife and family - and bow out now.

Denying his affair is an insult to our intelligence.

This just means hes been offered a VP slot by one of the Rinos/Cronies. Ignored, just like the push polls and netroot war room posters.

Cain's defense of this latest attack was just another denial and that isn't sufficient. He needs to mount a vigorous defense or counter attack.

This isn't just about his reputation, it is about how he respond to attack...and other than hire L Lin Wood, he hasn't done much.

Allen West should move on. Gingrich is done if he would decide to pick West as VP.

Rule of thumb, Mr. West, "Never underestimate the supporters behind the CAIN train."

So now Allen West is a RINO to you. It looks like you’re my brother in faith (I do like apologists like Dr. William Lane and Ravi Zacharias and Dinesh D’Souza) — but please use some of your “reason”. To me it looks like West is saying that there are now two viable candidates, and of the two he thinks Gingrich is better. It’s a perfectly reasonable statement. Things may change, where Cain starts ascending again, but seems less likely. As for me, anyone who can beat Obama is the only requirement. Everything else is a bonus.

I guess you aren't insulted, then.

Allen West, Jim DeMint and George Allen should enter the primaries then.

and other than hire L Lin Wood, he hasn't done much.

And I haven't seen anything the much ballyhooed Wood has done, except release a premature, and incredibly stupid, statement.

I like West a lot...but I disagree witrh him on this.

Cain has been the object of a hatchet job and witch hunt.

There is not one centilla of verifiable proof to any accusation made against him. We should not be so quick in abandoning him and I will not do so.

Let’s see what happens in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. We’ll know better then after real “polls” are taken.

Unless there is compelling proof of these attacks by these individuals who have a history of false sexual harrassment charges, bankruptcies, fraud, shady dealings, lawsuits, etc., etc., then I will continue to believe and support Herman Cain.

West just stepped on his Johnson ~ or he wishes he could.

Anyway, when the worst Axelrod could come up with is a nutty ol'gal with a weight lifting female business partner the Democrat effort to attack Cain finally reached the Cindy Lauper level of showmanship ~ a regular carnival show.

No, it's not Mr. Cain that's the problem here, but it's pretty obvious that as Axelrod plays out scenarios reflecting his own sexual fantasies we can be sure that Obama's next campaign is going to be remarkably disastrous!

“...embolden the liberal smear machine...”

Absolutely correct, that’s why I want Herman to stay. As for West, after his support of the last big spending measure, calling the Tea Party “schizophrenic” because you were criticized for that support, and, now, this-—well, Alan, babe, I’m beginning to wonder if you haven’t gone and had the “beltway lobotomy.”

“He needs to mount a vigorous defense or counter attack” ................................. Divert his resources, spend more on defending, cause him to drain his funds. Its all part of the political oppositions game. The Democrats don’t want him to run against Obama. There is more to it than just beating him, its the loss of black voters that they fear the most. Looking at this last accuser’s picture, I don’t see any sincerity in her expression. If he knows he is guilty, he’ll do the right thing. Just chalk it up as another Liberal win 2-0 if he drops out.

Cain said he knew how to surround himself with good people. I’ve seen just three of his people so far: Mark Block, Lin Wood, and Ginger White. Wouldn’t have them around me for free, and he’s actually paid them.
