1:40 p.m. | Updated DAYTON, Ohio A buoyant and defiant Herman Cain took the stage in a hotel ballroom on Wednesday morning to reassure a group of several hundred supporters that he would not be getting out of the race for the Republican nomination, saying, The American people are going to raise some Cain in 2012!
Over a roar of approval from the crowd, he added: They want you to believe that we cant do this. They want you to believe that with enough character assassination on me, I will drop out!
At this point, there were loud shouts of No! from the audience.
Mr. Cain seemed emboldened. Well, the American people have a different idea.
After a more subdued performance and reception by an audience in southern Michigan last night, Mr. Cain seemed to have regained his footing in Ohio, campaigning as more of his usual playful and sarcastic self.
The audience ate it up. Look, a lot of people in office havent had the most squeaky clean morals not that Im saying theres any truth to whats been out there, said Steve Fields, 48. Were looking for someone different to lead this country, and I think hes the one to do it. I like his overall vision and especially the 9-9-9 tax plan.
Mr. Cain used lines from his standard stump speech, including one zinger that always gets laughs and approving applause from crowds: Stupid people are ruining America!
Loud cheering. Yeah! the crowd responded.
Mr. Cain said, We just have to outvote them.

Cain/Newt
Good for you, Mr. Cain! We know a smear campaign when we see it!
Holy cow Batman, its Pravda!
I think Cain needs to tell his Secret Service protectors to take a hike, and get some good ole country boys instead.
Win one for the Gipper.
And this is a personal call out to Kevin Williamson of the National Review - if you can’t find something POSITIVE to say about Herman Cain once in a while, SHUT THE F*** UP!
Seriously, do you think anyone who isn’t already a Cain supporter is going to jump on the “Cain train” at this point?
Stay the course!....TO HELL WITH THE WHACK LEFT MEDIA!
Herman Cain would be 15x better in the Oval Office than Barack Hussein Obama.
Have you recently noticed that when Cain’s and Romney’s numbers go down, Newt’s numbers go up.
Hhmmmm.....curious.
-—”Hang in there, Mr. Cain”-—
If only to stick it to Romney operative, Karl Rove!
-P.S. How did Karl Rove know about this allegation before Herman Cain did? For that matter, how did he know about the previous allegations before Cain did?
Its funny how Romney operative Karl Rove always seems to know more about pending allegations against Cain than Herman Cain does:

Hugin- About 6 weeks ago on this Board, was anyone willing to jump on the “Newt train”? -:)
It’s only a guess, but I think perhaps Cain’s determined that even with all the hoopla, he’s around 15%— which is acceptable, given that the prior also-rans tank down to single digits.
I like Newt- wish him absolutely no ill-— but if he should falter, Mr. Cain would rise-— alternatively, Cain may wish to stay viable as a VP.
Well now, first I’ll read story, then I will donate to Cain campaign. There are more of us FReepers than there are Weekly Standard editors; let’s go Cain!
These allegations will surely force him into the single digits, where he will likely stay until he drops out after the first primary.
Cain has raised a lot of money, so he will spend it in hopes a miracle will happen. But in reality, he is finished. There is no longer even a chance.
