NBA Stars to Raise Money for Obama

President Barack Obama‘s campaign is putting together a Dream Team of current and former NBA stars to help raise money for the president’s re-election effort.

A fund-raiser, billed as the first-ever “Obama Classic Basketball Game,” is in the works. The line-up, according to campaign materials, is an eye-popping list of stars that Mr. Obama, a devoted recreational player, would no doubt like to join.

The game will be played in Washington on Dec. 12 at a venue yet to be announced.

The primo game package costs $35,000, which gets a donor “one bench seat & two courtside seats, shootaround with the players before the game, autograph session and meet & greet and dinner with the players following the game,” according to campaign materials.‬ ‪ ‬ ‪A $20,000 contribution “includes two courtside seats, shootaround with the players before the game, autograph session and meet & greet.”‬ ‪ ‬ ‪A simple courtside seat is going for $5,000.

The roster, according to a campaign document, includes Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks and Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder, as well as former players such as Patrick Ewing, Dikembe Mutombo and Alonzo Mourning. A full list is below.

Mr. Obama is perhaps the nation’s most famous basketball fan and has given the sport a presidential platform since taking office. He’s sat for ESPN interviews to reveal his NCAA picks during March Madness and weighed in multiple times on the NBA contract dispute. The president also plays the game in his spare time, including this past weekend.

The basketball fund-raiser is one of several kinds of targeted fund-raising events the Obama campaign is planning.

On Wednesday, Mr. Obama will appear at campaign fund-raiser highlighting gay rights issues in New York.

If he already had a billion dollars promised for his re-election, why does he have to do so much fundraising?

PRESIDENT OF THE 1%.

Every single player in the NBA is in the 1%. The NBA rookie minimum is $366K, which is within the current 1% range.

What’s an NBA?

A labor organization dedicated to discriminating against short people.

Personally, I think the streets will be safer without all those Ferraris due to the tax on millionaires.

If he already had a billion dollars promised for his re-election, why does he have to do so much fundraising?

Because He and the rest of the Democrats know that it is not enough! It is going to be expensive, very expensive, to get the reluctant Obama voter to the polling places. Add to that the legions of flacks, opposition researchers and lawyers needed to get the right spin on the 'facts', the dirt on the opponent and the correct vote count in those narrow races [respectively].

Thus a Billion will be just the start of the needed bankroll.

The maximum campaign contribution is $2,500 ($5,000 if you include the Primary Elections). How can they get away with a $35,000 contribution for the top package?
