Is there a reason why they stopped allowing horse meat in the US to be consumed? The reason I ask is my dad spoke of eating horse meat and it was cheaper than beef when he was growing up in the 20 and 30’s.

I don’t know the details on whether or not it is allowed for consumption here, or if not, why.

Neither do I. But I do remember the old cartoons and sending the old plow horse to the glue factory.

Is there a reason why they stopped allowing horse meat in the US to be consumed? Chicks started thinking of them as pets.
One thing most people don't realize is that people in this country who once rode horseback as a primary means of transportation carried pistols in order to be able to kill the horse before it killed them.
Been there, done that, got the T-Shirt.

When I wrote the article I came across something from the AVA site saying some people have to put horses down because they are dangerous to other animals and humans.
And a host of other reasons, some of which is to keep the animals from suffering.
I love elk meat, BTW.

I'd add Canadian Geese, raccoons and whitetail deer.

馬刺はポンスでめっちゃ美味しいですよ。 Horse is delicious if served lightly brazed with a sweet vinegar soy sauce. Same goes for whale.
