My Man Newt [Maureen Dowd]
NYT ^ | 11/29/11 | Maureen Dowd

Posted on 11/30/2011 7:33:04 PM PST by BunnySlippers

In many ways, Newt is the perfect man.

He knows how to buy good jewelry. He puts his wife ahead of his campaign. He’s so in touch with his feelings that he would rather close the entire federal government than keep his emotions bottled up. He’s confident enough to include a steamy sex scene in a novel. He understands that Paul Revere was warning about the British.

Mitt Romney is a phony with gobs of hair gel. Newt Gingrich is a phony with gobs of historical grandiosity.

The 68-year-old has compared himself to Charles de Gaulle. He has noted nonchalantly: “People like me are what stand between us and Auschwitz.” As speaker, he liked to tell reporters he was a World Historical Transformational Figure.

He understands that Paul Revere was warning about the British.

And yet the subject of this little bit of snark has managed to do less to embarrass herself less over the last three years than some of the current candidates have over the last three months.

Newt isn’t such a bad candidate.

Three wives? OK, he had some moral problems in his past (like many independents who we need to appeal to). He has repented. At 68 I doubt he will be fooling around as President.

Global warming? He figured that we can’t change the minds of the AGW fanatics, but we CAN offer market alternatives to government take overs. Sort of like speaking to a madman with a knife — “Look buddy. I have a nice candy bar here that is going to silence those nasty voices in your head. Now give me the knife and you can have the bar.”

Newt has a proven record of reducing government programs when in the 90s he dismantled welfare as we knew it. He can do that again. No one else has experience slashing Federal programs.

Also, he can debate well and will be able to destroy the liberal Messiah, educating millions in the processes. He can explain market solutions better than anyone.

“Newt and Company had a good run for a year and got much of their program passed.”

So what did you want? Might mention, a balanced budget three years in a row, plus many more accomplishments and I do think it was a little more than a year. What has he not followed through on?

From interviews with his first wife, yes, she said he was cheating. Wanted the divorce because he told her had found someone else.

Wife #2 he also left for the current wife. Wife #2 felt Newt didn't think she was sophisticated enough for him and the DC scene. She claims that he told her she dressed frumpy and was over-weight.

Both wife #1 and #2 supported Newt financially and emotionally. Wife #2 assisted him with his book writing and tours. Wife #2 worked to put Newt through college. BS and PHD....for me BS Artist and Piled How Deep degrees.

Newt cheated on two wives, hurt them deeply and then moved on his merry way, without an ounce of remorse. Newt is for Newt. And for what I have read a mean, nasty SOB with a tempter to boot.

Isn’t this the woman who knelt before Bill Klinton and said “Why not me, Bill?”

He had Clinton on the mat and let him come back and win reelection in 1996. He totally misplayed the government shutdown and let the Republicans be painted as the bad guys. Newt was basically neutered after that. He tried pandering to the leftists but that didn’t make his enemies hate him any less. He had a chance to set liberalism back a generation in this country and he just plain blew it. Now he thinks he can redeem himself by running for President? He should go back to sitting on the sofa with Nancy Pelosi.

Must have been in her younger days. Dowd doesn’t seem to be aging well. Guess a gallon of make up and photographer that is a magician can work wonders for older women

“I cant tell what is going on in that photo”

Nothing is actually going on, but there is much potential.

Gingrich isn’t perfect, but I think he understands how to wield the levers of power in D.C. better than his rivals.

We need to have a president who can do that in our current dire situation.

Please do not use “Mo Dowd” and “piece” in the same sentence. :)
