UPPER WEST SIDE, NY (PIX11)— If you need to catch a cab you may want to try the Upper West Side, since some who live next to the Islamic Cultural Center on Riverside Drive say their neighborhood is being flooded with parked taxis every week.
"They are everywhere, hundreds of them. I joke with my doorman every Friday I can't find a cab," said John Hart, who lives across the street in a high-rise building.
"I have to pray," said a cabbie who did not want to give his name," I have no choice but to break the rules."
The Imam of the Islamic Cultural Center, Abdur Rahman, told PIX11 News, muslims must pray several times a day and that he urges his worshippers not to break any parking rules to pray. "A good muslim does not offend anybody. I wish the City, though, could give us 45 minutes on Fridays to pray, like Christians on Sunday," said Rahman.

Fortunately I live in an area where people can drive themselves and don’t rely on taxis so much but I wonder about the effectiveness of a boycott against cabs driven by a Muslim - or would they just rather complain. Guess they could always take the bus or subway.

It they are towable offenses, I think Parking Enforcement should be well equiped to address the problem
I have a photograph I took in Alexandria, VA, about two months ago of a Moslem cab driver who pulled over to a sideroad that was located at a subway station. He got out and started to pray. Fine with me. Not in the way.
What he didn’t seem to notice was that he was praying under a 20 Ft Cross located at the edge of the driveway.
My wife and I couldn’t stop laughing.

Another reason why I don’t live in NY.
It has nothing to do with the actual insistence that they (Moose-limbs) have access to Halal meats, but EVERYTHING to do with their efforts toward "Stealth Jihad," in imposing their culture and practices incrementally on the rest of us while refusing to "assimilate" and live as Americans as do most of immigrants from different countries with different religions and cultures.
As far as I know there is NO "specified time" which the practitioners of the "Religion of Pieces" MUST pray; only general timelines, 5 times a day, therefore their arguments that their prayer times must take place at a certain time are specious.
Lastly Christians (at least Catholics that I know of and can't imagine other Christian religions are not as flexible) allows for "Dispensations" for those who must work on Sundays and made concessions by adding services on Saturday nights to facilitate those who can not (or choose for whatever reason) go to church on Sundays.
Of course we know that the Quar'an/Sharia will allow no such flexibility on this--or any other--dogma, thus don't look for them to try and make accommodations for the "followers" or for the rest of us who they inconvenience.
Then the police have no choice but to ticket and tow you.
Two days of tickets for obstructing traffic, and the problem is solved. That would destroy the economics of the drivers. If the city doesn’t do this, they’re complicit.
Well Rahman, if you don't want to offend people don't lie to them. Christians don't get to park in the middle of the street to pray on Sundays.
