I’ve been a Perry supporter from the get-go, but I’m afraid he’s toast...as is Cain. As much disdain that I have for Newt, I would back him in a heartbeat! He has impressed the bejeebers out me, and always has, but his baggage, ie Pelosi on the couch, guns, immigration, etc., gives me pause. But, he’s is the ABR (Anybody But Romney) in the room...at this point in time!

YES, that’s why you can’t “soundbite” Newt. He always has a logical explanation for his positions if given a chance to explain them, like he did on immigration. The voters aren’t stupid. (at least Conservative voters)

Romney’s only draws are that:

- he is not outlandish,

As long as youre not looking at his religion or the way he treats animals

- he is familiar to us due to his prior run, and

If he has ever got familiar with the ladies the Democrats will let us know IF Willie Mitty ever got to be the GOP candidate...

- we have some residual fondness for Romney because he seemed better than McCain but the MSM forced McCain on us

Well in 2008 the RINO Quintupets, Romney, McCain, Huckabee, Gulianni, Paul were equally disliked so I wouldnt suggest we were fonder of any of them...

I am very surprised that Perry fell so far so fast and has not seemed to make any effort to rehabilitate himself. He has the money and the organization to mount an offensive, but he hasn’t even begun. I get the feeling that he really never wanted the job.

Newt was a very effective Speaker of the House which is clearly an executive position requiring political skills which I don’t think any of the other candidates possess. He is also clearly the best communicator in the race. He can say more in a dozen words than most people can say in a hundred.

He does have a tendency to fall to the middle, but at this point in history there really is no direction the country can go but to the right.

The tide has turned in his direction and because his life has been riddled with mini-scandals and everyone knows about them, it is unlikely that anything like what happened to Cain is going to happen to Gingrich. In many ways Gingrich is the conservatives prodigal son. I think he will do well in the general election. He may do as well as Reagan.

In Florida, Gingrich at 50 Percent (Newt-50, Mitt-19, Cain-10)

Clearly, if the Public was sharing the same sentiment as you, then we would not be seeing such a rapid increase in Newt's popularity. You are flat out wrong about that assumption.

Calista IS NOT An Adulteress. New is a Philanderer/adulterer.

Adultery (also called philandery) is sexual infidelity to one’s spouse, and is a form of extramarital sex.

Newt’s big strength as a candidate is being such a sleaze that another old scandal is not going to harm his reputation among conservatives, that and being genuinely knowledgeable on every issue. I’m not thrilled with him, but I’ll probably be able to vote for him if he is the nominee. I just hope we get the brilliant, conservative, tactically effective Newt, and not the other Newt whom we also know so well.

Newt reminds me a lot of Nixon in this regard. The press and media hated Nixon with a passion, and he did have a couple of scandals (pre-Watergate) of relatively minor scope (compared to other pols). However, compared to Humphrey or McGovern, Nixon was not only far more intelligent, he had a vision of this country that didn't involve surrender. He went "toe-to-toe with the Russkies" (in the immortal words of Major T. J. "King" Kong) on a number of occasions, and had their respect (which is to say, they knew that they could only push him so far). Yes, he made his mistakes (especially with economics and Watergate), but had McGovern won we'd have had a white Obama 40 years ago and we'd already be in a new Dark Age, probably needing to learn Russian to get along (those of us left alive, that is).

I cannot emphasize enough that:

1) There is no one out there who is perfect;

2) We are not electing a saint or the Messiah; and

3) Trying to find someone perfect is a recipe for losing next November (i.e. "the Perfect is the enemy of the Good").

I like Cain a lot, but at this point he is toast. Gingrich is highly articulate and intelligent, knows history well, values the free market, loves his country, won't bow down to foreign kings or apologize for this nation, has a coherent foreign policy and has a coherent energy policy. While not perfect, IN EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THOSE AREAS HE OUTSHINES OBAMA. We'd be nuts to not fall in line behind him if he looks like he's going to win the nomination, simply because to not do so will guarantee Obama's 2nd term. Facing no election down the pike, the destruction of our society will accelerate - and the Republic itself will be in grave danger.

Newt is catching on like wildfire among independents and even Tea Party types. Mainly because of outstanding performances like the one he showed for over an hour on Hannity last night.

Even FOX is starting to realize the strength of this rare and dynamic man.

Right, and let you self righteous types, who see yourselves as judges and saints, are quick to throw stones, but fail to see all the bumps from your own sins and transgressions.

How about his cheating on wife #1 and wife #2?

Are we supposed to ignore that as the “family values” party?

We're electing a political leader, not a preacher, saint or messiah. There IS no one perfect out there, nor will there ever be. Do you want us to reject Newt because of his personal morality issues, and wind up with Obama again? What are Obama's values? He's certainly a huge liar and one of the most thoroughly corrupt Presidents we've ever had, he's damned near destroyed the economy, bows down to foreign kings, apologizes to the world for us constantly, plays nice with our enemies and undercuts our allies.

The Perfect is the enemy of the Good.

The Perfect is the enemy of the Good.

The Perfect is the enemy of the Good.

The Perfect is the enemy of the Good.

Keep repeating that until you understand that we need a leader who can reverse the clock and restore our political values, finances and alliances against our enemies. Morality is important, but I'm never going to go to Newt Gingrich or any other politician for advice regarding my marriage.

Shortly after that, they (The GOP) threw Newt under the bus. Newt is not at all an establishment RINO. He never was.

Thanks for pointing this out. He, like Reagan, had to deal with many fair-weather friends who undercut or betrayed him at the first opportunity. Newt will first stick it to the lieberals and then to the go-along, get-along Repukelicans.

Paul overwhelms Perry in the bottom feeder category.
But Perry clearly out-polls Huntsman by at least (or at most) a point.

The thing I like most about this poll is it is the first major poll I’ve seen in which Romney is below his customary 23-25%.

Romney is slip sliding away.

“Newt can take Romney in the Primary-—but he will have to struggle mightily to win the general.”

So would each and every one of them.

My vote doesn’t matter anyway here in Tennessee. If Newt is winning the primary by this sort of margin by the time we vote in the primary, my vote for someone else will not matter in the degree of his win. When the general election occurs, the lack of my vote will not matter in the degree of his loss.

Three months ago, Perry is where Newt is now. The difference is that this time the first votes will be cast before Newt could plunge as Perry did. As much as I fear for America if Newt wins the nomination, the moving up of the primaries to help Romney seems to have sunk any chance of someone supplanting Gingrich before Iowa votes.

I would need the largest clothespin ever to close my nose if this is my option. And make no mistake about the fact that the left will make this an issue.

Like another 4 years of Obama, sans the need to stand for re-election, would be so much better?

Please understand the the primaries are the time to vote for your favorite candidate, and the general is about stopping the greater of 2 evils (most of the time - 1980 and 1984 being huge exceptions). I really don't much care what someone does behind closed doors so long as they do a good job the rest of the time. We're not electing a preacher, saint or the Messiah, we're electing a politician that has to deal with some monumental problems. While I'd far rather have a very moral and capable leader, I will settle for an immoral and capable leader over a moral dunce, especially now with the fate of the Republic at stake.
