Gingrich Is Uniting the Tea Party and Establishment
Weekly Standard ^ | 12/01/11 | Jeffrey Anderson

Posted on 12/01/2011 4:14:24 PM PST by freespirited

The latest Rasmussen poll of likely voters — which shows Newt Gingrich with a 21-point lead over runner-up Mitt Romney — suggests that Gingrich is uniting the Tea Party and establishment wings of the Republican Party. The poll shows that among likely Republican primary voters who do not consider themselves to be members of the Tea Party, Gingrich is winning by 11 percentage points — 32 to 21 percent (over Romney). Among those who do consider themselves to be members of the Tea Party, he’s winning by 37 points — 47 to 10 percent (over Romney and Herman Cain). Among those who aren’t sure, he’s winning by 26 points — 42 to 16 percent (over Romney).

Moreover, Gingrich is winning not only among Republicans but also among those independents who are likely to vote in a Republican primary — in both cases by a margin of about 2 to 1. Among Republicans, he’s winning by a tally of 40 to 18 percent (over Romney). Among those independents who are likely to vote in a Republican primary, he’s winning by a tally of 30 to 17 percent (over Ron Paul).

Overall, Gingrich enjoys better than 2-to-1 leads (over anyone) among those who are between the ages of 40 and 64, those who are at least 65 years of age, those who say they are “very conservative,” those who say they are “somewhat conservative,” those who are married, those who are Protestant, those who are Evangelical, those who make less than $60,000 a year, those who make more than $100,000 a year, and men. Meanwhile, he enjoys double-digit (but not 2-to-1) leads among those who are single, those who are Catholic, those who make between $60,000 and $100,000 a year, and women.

But, but, but what about all this “baggage” I keep hearing about? It’s supposed to terrify people and keep them from voting for the man. Must be some weird sh*t, that “Baggage” wherever it is, but nobody seems to care too much.

The MSM is not done building him up yet. Then they will care.

Newt Gingrich ... an answer in search of a question that nobody asked for a decade and a half, and gosh darnit, he's this close to finding one.

Is Newt issuing this edict just like his pompous statement about his being the GOP candidate?

I am a member of the Tea Party and Newt Gingrich is the last man I’d vote for as POTUS.

I am against Professional Politicians without any concept of what it is like to work for a living. He has not job experience, unless of course, you want to count selling insider information on how to lobby for your causes in Congress; work in the world of academics where you don’t create jobs, or take up a stint working for the Nelson Rockefeller organization.

I am so raging mad! Newt is not uniting the Tea Party and what every the h*ll the Establishment means....I assume the good ole boy’s in the DC Beltway.

Wondering if the PTB (Powers That Be) troll this website and have realized that we WON’T vote for Romney no matter what. So they’re Ted Stevensing Cain to get rid of him and putting in Newt for the nomination win.

Don't speak for me. Gingrich’s best feature is that he's better than Romney.

The reason the TEA (Taxed Enough Aready) party was started was to stop runaway taxes, spending and borrowing. Last time Newt was in charge taxes were cut, and the budget was balanced. And that was with a Democrat president.

I am sick and tired of this “oh, but he is such a good debater” line. He has had his chance in the past to be a great debater against people like John Kerry and he rolled over. Reagan had a disasterous debate against Mondale...so, was Walter the better debater? What about Bush? both Gore and Kerry were “better more polished” debaters and they both lost. So, this whole issue of “he is such a good debater” is horse caca. What he is is a snake oil salesman...and anyone who is a true conservative can see this about Newt.

Yes. A good used-car salesman, given some preparation, could be an excellent debater, but that wouldn't make him a good presidential candidate.

It is what the guy does after the debates, assuming he gets elected. That is when Gingrich gives rise to a huge question mark.
