NEWBERRY, S.C. -- Cathy Gibbons is a one-woman focus group for Republican attitudes toward Newt Gingrich. Back in the '90s, Gibbons grew tired of Gingrich when he was Speaker of the House. But this year, after watching Gingrich at Republican presidential debates, she sees him as a different man -- and the best candidate in the field.
"I've heard them talk on the news about all the baggage, but I don't see that any more," says Gibbons, of McCormick, S.C. "He's not the same person. They say people can't change when they become adults, but I think Newt has."
Still, just seconds later, Gibbons adds, "There are some things that have bothered me that have come out in the last couple of days." For one, there's Gingrich's work for mortgage giant Freddie Mac. "I just didn't picture him doing that," Gibbons says. "He used the influence he had earned while he was in the political field, and somehow we've got to get away from that."

They are just holding all his baggage for now.
They will throw it all at him when the time is right. This is the democrat/MSM party, they hold NOTHING back once the time is right to unload.
The only thing that saves two-faced politicians in America is that the voters want to be fooled.
No need to wait. Newt is pro-amnesty, he said so.
There is NO new Newt. It’s all the same! That’s the problem.
So far on this forum I haven't seen anyone stand up and say they would not vote for Newt over Obama...or even stay home.
That's light-years above any other candidate discussed on this forum.
Oh, I'm sure there's a few dozen folks on FR that would, in fact do that. They'll also likely respond to this post vehemently.
But just peruse the threads and you'll see momentum of the real sort. Mind Share.
Yes, Newt is a two-faced weasel that has to be watched and reminded constantly.
But he'd be a pretty darn effective weasel for us if we can keep him line.
“I’ve heard them talk on the news about all the baggage, but I don’t see that any more,” says Gibbons,”
But, does the phrase “blithering idiot” ring a bell with you?
Hint: LOOK IN YOU MIRROR!
Excuse me sir. Was that comment directed at me?
Newt is for Newt and no one else. A genuine phony.
I will not vote for Newtie if he is the nominee under ANY circumstances. He will legalize millions of illegals if he gets to the White House. He is 100% untrustworthy and no reliable Conservative.
House, Senate and local?
If so, good enough.
I'd vote for Newt and then go home and drink a bottle and feel filthy.
All you Newt haters out there...take the time to read HIS books and listen to HIS speeches. You might find out that he represents a lot more of what this nation needs than the MSM and lurkers here on FP will concede.
“Gibbons grew tired of Gingrich when he was Speaker of the House. “
A media victim, easily swayed. These are the voters establishment politicians count on.
What other Conservatives ? Want to know what kind of a ballot I have ? I live in a district that has not sent a Republican to Congress since Ulysses Grant won a second term (1872). I have 2 RINO Senators (Corker and Lamar!). My state rep is a rodent crook. My state Senator is a VRA-protected incumbent (Black Urban liberal). No Presidential race means (unless the state legislature slices Nashville 3 ways for the U.S. House seats) that I have no one to vote for. Not that it matters. Zero was as popular as AIDS in TN in 2008 and voted against him in a landslide and anyone with an “R” will carry the state. But I refuse to rubber-stamp another damnable phony. I felt sick voting for McCain (which I only did because I was voting for Palin — not for that POS), and I’m not doing that again.
You’re barking up the wrong tree, pal. I WAS a supporter of his in the ‘90s. He completely failed as Speaker and was a total joke. I’m tired of listening to the words and promises of politicians. So empty and so full of crap. I want actions. Newt had time to demonstrate his leadership and he folded like a cheap suit. He’s been a sad embarrassment ever since, from pandering to the cultural elitists he so desperately wants to be a part of, holding hands with Princess Nancy and pimping for the New York Socialist candidate. Nuck Fewt.
No Romney. Period. After that:
Newt can be good, bad, or ugly
Perry collapsed
Bachmann collapsed
Cain collapsed
Ron Paul is who he is
Huntsman's better than his hype, but bad on spending and global warming
Damn this sucks.
It will be real until the pressure is off, then we’ll see the good old Moderate Newt, the one guaranteed to stab conservatives in the back.
I'm starting to feel the same way. Why do I owe this narcissistic scumbag my vote if he wins in the primary? And if any freepers out there are going to howl that if I don't vote for Newt it will "elect Obama", I'm in Hussein's adopted state and the GOP won't even lift a finger to TRY winning it so it's going to go to Hussein no matter how I vote. In 2008, I voted for that jerk McCain just because Palin was on the ticket and he's been spamming my email with garbage even since I tentatively "endorsed" his candidacy over Obama. I don't feel like supporting Newt even if he talks some decent conservative into being his running mate.
