Attack Ads Start to Fly in GOP Presidential Race
Sunshine State News ^ | December 2, 2011 | Kevin Derby

With less than five weeks until Iowa voters hit the polls to kick off the Republican presidential race, the leading candidates in the race unleashed barrages of ads hitting television stations across the country and the Internet.

Former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts unveiled two new ads running in Iowa, which holds the first presidential caucus Jan. 3, and in New Hampshire. The Iowa ad indicates Romney plans to compete in the Hawkeye State, where he placed second back in the 2008 race.

"After watching Mitt evade, distort, and eventually blame Bret's questions, it's no wonder he is ‘Scared Mittless’ of the press. When you are on both sides of every issue, it makes it hard to answer tough questions,” Huntsman spokesman Tim Miller said Thursday. “More importantly, can Republican voters trust Mitt Romney to beat Barack Obama when he can't even defend his own record?"

Huntsman was not the only Republican to launch an attack this week.

U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, now making his third bid for the White House and his second attempt at the Republican presidential nomination, took the gloves off on Wednesday and ripped into primary rival former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

“I am going to describe a candidate for you right now, and I want you to think about whether or not you would support him,” Paul wrote his supporters. “This candidate was for the individual mandate that served as the model for Obamacare. He was originally for the TARP bank bailouts before he was against them. He joined with Nancy Pelosi to promote the antibusiness ‘global warming’ agenda. He slammed Paul Ryan's budget plan as ‘extreme,’ calling it ‘right-wing social engineering.’

“You might think I am talking about Mitt Romney. Heck, you might think I'm talking about a liberal Democrat. But I'm not,” continued Paul. “That candidate I'm talking about is Newt Gingrich. He is what I like to call a ‘counterfeit conservative.’ And I have barely even scratched the surface!”

The Paul camp released a Web video attacking Gingrich who is now leading in many state and national polls.

Another Texas Republican -- Gov. Rick Perry -- also hit the airwaves with an attack ad on Thursday. Perry takes aim at President Barack Obama in the ad, linking the incumbent with Jimmy Carter.

"Our country's reliance on unstable foreign nations as energy sources is dangerous," said Ray Sullivan, a spokesman for Perry on Thursday. "Governor Perry's top priority for revitalizing domestic energy is becoming energy independent. This new ad underscores his commitment to utilizing all of our country's national energy sources and creating American jobs."

Does Newt even need to run ads? Probably not. And Mitt’s negatives will only rise if he attacks Newt. Remarkable position to be in.

You don’t want Newt vetted?

We should just elect this neon-flashing sitting duck for the general election?

Because that is exactly what Newt is, a sitting duck.

And the Dems don’t have to do any digging or make anything up to knock him down.

I’m impressed that while Newt and Mitt attack each other, Rick Perry is using his resources to attack Obama.

I wish the others could follow Perry’s lead.

You know that isn’t true. Newt’s been taking it to Obama and the media. Mitt has either attacked Perry or Newt and largely hasn’t even taken a swipe at Obama. Mitt’s ads have largely been ineffective.

Mitt has not also; articulated any real vision or policy ideas behind a 'vision' FOR America per how we 'fix, what is almost irretrievably, broken.

Used to think he 'rode' on his smile and his 'hair'. Now I think he just hides behind both.

Why is it that they entered the race over a year before the elections started, along with having debates, while the Democrats haven’t done anything close to that yet?

Right, he doesn’t brag about what he’s accomplished as Governor of Massachusetts. I think the big turnoff for a number of people will be his Fox News interview with Bret Baier. Baier at one point asked the same one question a number of times, and each time Mitt had a different answer. Eventually Mitt appeared pissed off at the question. Mitt is an arrogant creep. He’s the one who demanded the interview be done in Florida. He was the only candidate who didn’t agree to do the “Center Seat” segment on Special Report.

Would like to see where in any ads or debates; Newt has attacked Perry; or ANY of his fellow Repub candidates. Now Ron Paul is another story - not that he always been such; of course.

Newt has not only, NOT attacked Republicans; he has offered numerous times; that any one of the Repub candidates would serve America better than the current occupier of our White House!

He has atacked media and debate 'panelists' for their simply goading for such; rather than their asking 'real questions' that would generate - or should - substantiative answers.

I take the point of your post. Well done.

But while we’re at it, here’s a post that ATTEMPTS to make it a BAD thing that Perry is doing late night TV:

I haven’t ever said that attacks were in the form of adverts. And I probably should not have singled out Newt and Mitt. I agree that Newt has not been a major offender. And I certainly never even hinted that Newt has attacked Rick Perry.

My main point was that Rick Perry has been marshaling HIS fire on Obama and that others ought to do the same.

You don’t want Newt vetted?

Vetted? He is a world government Progressive! Does he really need to be vetted? His record is a matter of public record. People are just in massive denial. I am amazed he has now led the field for 2 weeks with his lead increasing by the day. Read HotAir each day and see all bad memories of Newt erased and denied. The Freddie Mac money didn't exist. They are sold, the text is GLOWING in its praise of the "brilliant", "clever" Gingrich. We have gone insane because of our desperation to defeat the demon Obama.

A focus on American energy can literally revive this nation almost overnight.

TEXAS Governor Perry gets it, like no others.

Because the Democrats have Obama, already.

The two situations of the two parties couldn’t be more different.

What O is doing, is campaigning and raising cash and setting up a “do nothing Congress” theme to run on, on the taxpayers’ backs, and running up the debt even more in the process.

Perry spox Ray Sullivan commented on Perry's newest ad: "Our country's reliance on unstable foreign nations as energy sources is dangerous....Governor Perry's top priority for revitalizing domestic energy is becoming energy independent. This new ad underscores his commitment to utilizing all of our country's national energy sources......"

Oh, man.......if that isn't a "come-hither" ad. Oil company CEO's are running for cover----knowing Perry will be conducting business as usual, Texas-style.......harrassing them for campaign contributions, in exchange for drilling deals.

Huntsman was not the only Republican to launch an attack this week.

Perhaps he's in hiding until his daugter's frightening music debut dies down?

This has been the most seriously frustrating primary season I can ever remember.
Rick Perry is a saint compared to newt gingrich. I am trying to get excited about SOMEBODY that will break this idiot dam wide open. Of all the candidates with warts, it seems that Perry actually has the fewest. I am still not 100% sold, but have completely eliminated romney, huntsman, paul, gingrich, bachmann, and sad to say, Santorum, and it looks as though Cain is a goner.
Am praying that Perry shows me something more than he has, but he has come pretty far from where he started. The skittishness and arrogance seems to be gone and his feet are firmly planted on planet earth.
gingrich is a talky academic that says alot while saying and MEANING nothing from far above the earth in an ivory tower. Cannot get over believing that newt is newt and that is all he ever will be. Pay him $$$ and he can give you an academic answer to just about anything and rationalize it later. Like obama, he believes he is so much smarter than you and I, that to put the power of the presidency in his hands is NOT a prospect I relish.

How about each of our candidates do an ad and explain what they would do about the 'Detention Bill' that is up for vote in Congress. . .

Can we scream; that 'our freedom is under total assault by Obama,Inc'? And worse to come; we should know, it is guaranteed.

The logical next step is for Obama to adapt Putin MO per holding elections. . .so as to guarantee outcome.

Indefinite Detention’ Bill Set For Final Vote Thursday …1 day ago

Senate moves to limit debate on unconstitutional legislation. Paul Joseph Watson Infowars.com Wednesday, November 30, 2011. Infowars.com Wednesday, November 30, 2011

The Senate has cleared the way for a final vote tomorrow on the National Defense Authorization Act, a provision of which would empower the U.S. military to operate on American soil, arrest American citizens and cart them off to detention centers anywhere in the world. [. . .]

The evil insanity of it all; but then, that is what this ideology is rooted in.

If this is voted down; as REASON, should dictate; no reason to believe that Obama would not do this by fiat, nonetheless - should circumstances arise.

This is why, folks; we need Newt; who already knows the steps he will take post Oath of Office; to retrieve our Country from the brink. . .he will not need any introduction or initiation to Congress; no mentoring or tutoring; as he hits the ground running.

Time is of the essence; and it is running out for America. . .

Has it occurred to these dunderheads that they are giving obama ammo for the general election?

Hence Reagan’s wisdom of the 11th Commandment.
