We have a pretty much a whole damn city like that....Rochester NY.

We shoveled drives, cut lawns, had a newspaper route, sold worms, gathered golf balls....

Doubtless he meant that MANY of them fit the description. But count on the MSM to make it sound like a blanket statement (racism).

He’s not saying this to say they’re inherently lazy or “bad people”, he’s (correctly) saying that due to the welfare society, fatherlessness, etc...that they don’t know anything else. They don’t see successful people to look up to.

Granted, he’s broken a few rules on the “list of things you can’t say in public” a few times, and so far, his numbers continue to improve.

Gingrich is such an ass.

Guess what, Newton, THERE ARE NO JOBS IN THE HELLHOLES IN WHICH THOSE KIDS LIVE.

For that matter, there are no jobs for kids in most cities. The adults have had to take those Mickey D’s jobs and jobs at the hardware store because the economy is so atrocious.

The parents in the poor areas are hapless, oh, I know Freepers like to say “lazy” but when your parents were raised in “the projects” and child molestation and drug use and beating is the norm, damaged people are created. When God has been forced out of everywhere, there are no guidelines except those of Satan, greed, sex -—it’s disgusting.

When the national administration teaches there is no right or wrong, it’s ok to cheat, lie, prevaricate, steal to get what you want........and Newtie, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE.

Sadly, I think it applies to the majority of kids these day, across the spectrum.

Newt is basically an academic at heart (history professor) and likes to dissect problems so as to be able to discuss concepts and ideas. Any comments like this need to be taken in that light. He’s not being mean, he’s being honest. If elected, he will be one of the brightest presidents ever.

Classic Newt. He is a smart man with some brilliant ideas, but he doesn’t think before he speaks and stuff like this comes out. I understand what he meant by the comment but the way he said it was stupid. He does this over and over and over. He did it in the 90s. He did it in the 2000s and he’s doing it now.

I agree! Not 100% of them but a vast majority. My brother in law is a stay at home “artist” and has never worked a day in his life. His son is 21 and neither has he. He majors in french in a college that his grandmother pays for.

Our newspaper recently had an article featuring a woman who has lived in section 8 housing for 40 years! They celebrate her as a “woman of dignity”! AND they bragged that she raised 3 generations of kids in that free house! Think any of them work?! Other than the street corner?!

"...children in poor neighborhoods have "no habits of working," no one around them works and they get cash illegally."

Is Newt trying to make the point that they're fully qualified to run for congress?

They’re doing to him what they did to Sarah, and to Herman (and others). They’re taking things out of context, and presenting their spin with a raised eyebrow.

And we’re falling for it. Again.

They’ll destroy EVERY SINGLE Republican candidate by election time, and we’re enabling it. We’ll be left with Mitt, who will lose in the general election.

Yes, Republicans are the stupid party. Attacking our own, based on faulty “evidence.”

He’s right. Part of this is because they don’t have working role models, but part of it is because they live in devastated neighborhoods (let’s not get into exactly who devastated them) and there aren’t any of the little jobs we used to do when we were kids - shoveling snow, walking dogs, paper route, delivering groceries, etc.

So the idea of giving them some useful work they can do at school, where they have to go every day anyway, is a good one. Kids at a certain age love to work and they love to show how responsible they are and what a good job they can do - and get praised and compensated for it. That’s what builds good work habits.

One of the reasons it’s hard for poor adolescents, particularly blacks, to get hired is by the time they are teenagers, they have developed absolutely no work habits and employers know that things like showing up on time, staying for a full shift, doing a job well and cooperating with coworkers are going to be things that are completely unknown to them, because they’ve never even done the basic kid-jobs before.
