Biden prods Turkey on new Iran sanctions

ANKARA (Reuters) - Vice President Joe Biden has urged Turkey to pass new sanctions against Iran, increasing pressure on Washington's Middle East ally to join a tightening web of sanctions aimed at forcing Tehran to stop work on its nuclear activities.

Turkey, a Muslim NATO member that aspires to join the European Union, has deepened economic and financial ties with its neighbor Iran in recent years, despite Western efforts to put the squeeze on the Islamic Republic.

"We continue to support a diplomatic solution to our concerns with Iran," Biden told Turkey's Hurriyet, in answers to questions from the leading newspaper published on Friday.

"However, we also believe that putting pressure on Iran's leadership is necessary to secure a negotiated settlement, and that is why we encourage our partners, including Turkey, to take steps to impose new sanctions on Iran, as we have continued to do," Biden said.

...and what exactly is “ a negotiated settlement” with the IRI? Does he think the regime can be trusted to give their word on anything???

Which would you rather have: a bucket of Iran Sanctions or a plate of The Middle East Peace Process? They are both noises that politicians make when they want you to think they’re “doing something” about events that are out of control.i

"We continue to support a diplomatic solution to our concerns with Iran," Biden told Turkey's Hurriyet,.....

Speaking of diplomacy, isn't that the realm of our SoS?

Why is Biden doing her job?

What, besides PR tours and photo ops does that woman do?

-——that aspires to join the European Union——

If Reuters thinks Turkey wants to join the European Union, then it is behind events by about a decade.

Turkey is now hoping to join and then control the GCC and the real power of the future. Europe is atrophying. The GCC is vigorously growing

“Why is Biden doing her job?”

Because Biden does much less and they wanted to give him something to do.

Why is Biden doing her job?

I'm guessing Obama doesn't want to offend them by sending a woman to negotiate.

The GCC is the Gulf Cooperation Council. It is Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE and Oman. The group ended trade barriers and internal travel restrictions years ago.

Dubai and Abu Dhabi are the public faces and centers of finance and trade. They are the future once Iran is taken out. Egypt and Jordan were discussed as members this last week.

I know nothing about travel to Turkey except that my idol, Richard Halliburton got locked in Santa Sophia on purpose over night to have it all to himself

Good for Biden. I see he’s moved up from choking chickens and spanking monkeys.

Thanks nuconvert.

This is the last piece of the diplomatic puzzle, and Russia's already helped form Turkey's response. The US has no leverage here, even if the Islamofascists running Turkey were so inclined.
