Boehner to Side with Dems to Avert Government Shutdown
Fox Nation ^ | December 01, 2011 | Chad Pergram, Fox News

Posted on 12/03/2011 10:32:13 AM PST by Qbert

Another potential government shutdown could loom if Congress isn’t able to scramble soon and cobble together a big omnibus spending bill to keep the government open past Dec. 16.

The current stopgap measure expires then. And only three of the 12 annual spending bills which run the federal government have been approved and signed into law.

That means House and Senate appropriators are putting together a massive, omnibus spending bill which they hope to have prepared by Dec. 15. This would not be an interim bill, better known in Capitol Hill-ese as a Continuing Resolution, or CR, which funds government in increments while the regular appropriations bills are negotiated.

This would simply allocate money for the remainder of currently unfunded government programs through Sept. 30, 2012. I am told that House appropriators are resistent to attaching any extraneous issues to this omnibus bill … such as unemployment insurance (UI), a payroll tax holiday, the alternative minimum tax (AMT) or the “doc fix” for Medicare.

What is significant here is that House Speaker John Boehner and GOP appropriators are turning their attention away from conservative Republicans who want to cut spending more...

“Good grief....another end of the world shutdown threat, right before Bammy’s vacation.”

It’s all by design. And the Repubs fall for it every time, unfortunately.

Good political calculus!

It is too difficult to explain to the voting public why not to continue with the payroll tax cut.

It would give Obama the club he's looking for, so taking it out of his hand allows Republicans to trumpet the failure of Obama and the importance of cutting spending.

If you think electing a rino to office is going to be much better than more power to you.

Newt, Romney, Perry..all from the same mold. These folks are the kind of politicians that have dragged this country down over the many years..... Evil dems driving towards that brick wall at 100mph. The evil and might I add stupid republicans are doing it at 90mph.

The outcome will be the same...SOCIALISM in the USA.

Perry is for cutting congress's pay and sending them home for most of the time so they can earn a living with the laws they pass...at home!

According to many FReepers, Perry is a RINO, while in TRUTH, Perry is more conservative than many FReepers these days.

And he hurt their feelings!

then this country surely is lost forever

I hate to break this to you, Catsrus, but there’s no point hanging onto the past. America had a great run. Remember it fondly for what it was.

America is now little more than an open-borders land mass populated by cretins and parasites who have absolutely no respect for the military and who vote for big government to confiscate money from their neighbors and “redistribute” it to them in exchange for their votes. It is not an America worth defending anymore. That America no longer exists.

The parasites outnumber the hosts now, and there’s no going back. The Democrats have won. Republican politicians are relegated strictly to big-mouthing about how they will do this and do that, but in the end they are nothing more than Democrat-lite. Between the two parties the difference is merely a matter of how fast the swirling water takes America down the toilet, but the destination is the same regardless.

So throw some cold water in your face, arm yourself to the teeth, and figure out how to grab every last government dime you possibly can before the parasites gobble it all up. Every man for himself.

FRegards, and good luck,
LH

I hear ya, but we are currently dying the death of a thousand cuts and everybody is sick of it. As things are, we are toast with the current crop of self servers running the govt. I don’t see anything different on the horizon. Besides electing romneys, bush’s and other assorted rinos what is your plan?

“So how can it be that Mr. Purity would now side with RATS? Can leadership be that difficult?

No, it’s not difficult, it’s corrupt. And that bastard is a pro at that.

Well, I am leaning Perry, even though he’s soaking wet on the illegals-who-are-already-here issue and screwed up royally in his first debate with that “have no heart” comment.

That, unfortunately, was his first impression to many GOP voters outside of Texas: insulting them and calling them heartless. YOu never get a second chance to make a first impression.

I think a lot of FReepers privately prefer Perry, though, despite these big problems, to Newt and Willard. But with Perry trailing badly in the early states, will we even have the OPTION of voting for him in the OTHER states? (My state’s primary is in JUNE!)

I’m good with a government shutdown until everyone gets back from vacation in January.

So am I. The problem is that the last time govt was shut down, a lot of voters were not happy. The GOP was blamed and believes seats were lost because of it.

“If we don’t get a conservative leader as the nominee we need to support a strong conservative third party candidate or else our country and way of life will be lost forever.”

Hmmmmmm...let me see if I have this straight...Newt was taken out by the GOP elite for closing down the Gubmint and playing too rough and now the VERY SAME assassins are still there, but somehow NEWT is the establishment guy?

Does this really make sense to anybody, because I just don’t understand how a guy who did more to change our government, other than RR, became the bad guy while the guys that killed him off and drove him out are out playing golf with Hussein?

Yep.

Nothing’s going to change until Conservatives replace Boehner, Steve LaTourette, and the rest of that hapless bunch.

As things are, we are toast with the current crop of self servers running the govt. I don’t see anything different on the horizon.

This is what is so depressing. The 2010 elections appear to have been meaningless and the 2012 elections, including the election for president, are shaping up to guarantee more of the same.

And some of you STILL pull the “vote for whoever the GOP elite shove down our throats - oh look it’s OBAMA!!!” Blech. Nope. THIS is what you get for always being scared and doing what the elite tell you. NO more. NO more RINOs. Third Party or write in unless a real Conservative gets in this race.

Seriously? Just when I think you can’t get dumber, you hit a new low. Where did I say he was?

Bachman can play a big part in history by calling a press conference, drop from the race and announce she is challenging boner for speakership.
