Herman Cain drops out of presidential race
LA times ^ | 3 Dec 2011

Herman Cain, the insurgent populist whose candidacy has been ensnared by allegations of sexual impropriety, said Saturday that he is leaving the race for the Republican presidential nomination, saying that the allegations have cast a "cloud of doubt over me and this campaign."

"As of today, with a lot of prayer and soul searching, I am suspending my presidential campaign," he said at an event in Atlanta. "I am suspending my presidential campaign because of the continued distraction, the continued hurt . . . on me, on my family, not because we are not fighters, not because I am not a fighter."

Cain's campaign had sent mixed signals as to his future since Ginger White, an Atlanta woman who claims to have had an affair with Cain for more than a decade, went public with her story earlier this week. While Cain has said he has been "reassessing" his candidacy, he also, at times, has been fiercely defiant, suggesting that unnamed enemies have been trying to do him in and vowing to press forward.

"The pundits would like for me to shut up, drop out and go away," he said. "I am not going to be silenced, and I am not going away."

This is a blow, a terrible blow. My score card is up-ended. I'd like clarification from Cain on what "suspended" means too. I'd rather not try to handicap this race without him in it. This might just be a third-party / write-in year after all. Heck, I'll vote Ron Paul before I'll stand with the establishment that assassinated my fellow conservative. Time to redo the numbers.

So, we hang a guy out to dry because he didn’t tell his wife? While I don’t agree with him doing that - possibly there are other reasons he didn’t. None of us know for sure, do we? NO we don’t. That proves absolutely nothing - as I said - only that he gave her money. That isn’t proof of jack crap!

David “Red Diaper Baby” Axelrod is the “inside job”. Obama’s insider! This politics of personal destruction - straight out of the Communist Manifesto/Saul Alinsky “playbook” - is the same way they brought down all of Obama’s past opponents as he worked his way up the political totum pole here in Illinois!

Innocent or guilty was irrelevant. We are all sinners guilty of something. The point was that few, if anyone, else on that stage was more willing to turn the IRS on its ear and run the government like a business. No one has his professional experience. No one else could destroy Axelrod's race card. He was willing to eliminate Obama care, close the border, and not fall for the climate change nonsense. He was quite literally the candidate to become America's CEO. I'm not sure he can be replaced this late in the game. It may not signify an Obama victory, but it is a terrible blow to every God Fearing Patriotic Tea Party Conservative in the country. Obama may not win, but we may well loose.

Agree.

I just wish that some young, ambitious reporter, wanting to make a name for himself would dig in on this and ferret out the truth. For me, it doesn’t pass the smell test.

It would be great if the truth were exposed so the guilty could pay. If it’s Cain, then so be it. But....if it’s NOT...then maybe the system would have worked and those responsible would somehow pay.

A system that would allow someone to pull strings, get false accusations out there, and torpedo a promising candidate needs to be fixed.

>>> My score card is up-ended. I’d like clarification from Cain on what “suspended” means too.

It means that he is giving the media what it wants, without giving them what they want.

It’s a strategic retreat that will most likely mean he will not win the initial primaries/caucuses, but also leaves him in the perfect position to be the last man standing prior to the republican convention.

A lot will depend upon the initial success of his “Plan B”.

I think he wants to go back to the status of being ignored by the media while he flanks around and cremes them from behind.

I do know this... considering the type of man he is, the type of FIGHTER he is... he will NOT let this go unanswered. This is NOT defeat if you keep the end game in perspective. It IS a defeat in the eyes of public opinion... for now.

In the general,I will write in Sarah Palin and get ready for four more years of obama.

What if Palin endorses, and thereby asks YOU to vote for, the Republican nominee?

I’m not sure what Cain is planning. In his speech he said he was suspending his campaign. But later the announcer said that Cain would later be ready with an endorsement of another candidate.

Sad to see another good American get beaten by the press.

I think I’m going to start supporting Romney. Just like my sports teams, any politician I start to get behind fails or drops out. (Duncan Hunter, Thompson, Palin, Cain, ....and I probably shouldn’t even bring up Ross Perot!)

I am/was a loyal Cain guy.....totally sold on “the businessman-political outsider thing.” I would agree that Bachman is probably the best Conservative alternative at this point. However, as of now, I'm sitting out the primaries and unfortunately I think most of Cain's supporters will sit out or go to Gingrich. Bachman burned some serious bridges with the Cain folks with her 666/999 analogy and opportunist/dishonest portrayal of Cain's position on life. Gingrich on the other hand has been careful to not burn bridges with the supporters of his rivals. I personally would support Bachman over Gingrich in a heartbeat...but I think Bachman would have been better served attacking Romney and Gingrich rather than her fellow Conservatives.

It probably means that Cain will no longer be actively seeking the nomination, but that he also will not be withdrawing his name as a candidate in any primaries where he’s already on the ballow, won’t be formally disbanding his campaign, and isn’t ruling out getting back into the campaign.

As a practical matter, though, it is extremely unlikely that Cain will be jumping back into the race.

Also, keep in mind that there may be other reasons, such as potential tax consequences, for Cain not to formally wind up his campaign before the end of the year.

I pray Ginger White gets what happened to the two white young adults in Knoxville, TN, where the blacks got off because they were black.

I pray that all her children, grand children and great grandchildren are cursed. I'm usually not into paganism but in this case I will pray that hell comes down on her like nothing else.

She is an evil B&%#& See you next Tuesday, Gloria Allred should be in jail and David Axelrod should be deported.

Sir with all do respect, anything on the GOP debate stage is a 1000% better than Mr. Obama. We’re 15 trillion in debt; the morale of our military has been drastically depleted by Obama; our borders are like swiss cheese and getting worse; Obama is presiding over the global USA apology tour with the promise to ruin our super power status; we’re about to install socialiized medicine and our country is 1 vote away on the Supreme court of losing Constitutional Government to another Obama appointee.

Dear God, I don’t care if Micky Mouse is running; he’s got my vote!!

I guess I'll be getting off the Cain Train now.

Not getting on with Newt, Romney, or Perry though. PALIN! we need you, or somebody like you who hasn't been crapped on by the media yet.

Here here. You stated your ideas well. I do like the way Newt has behaved in the debates. He’s been brilliant in my opinion, and I do prefer Newt over Romney.

Here is what I wrote to another individual on this thread:

Listen, it’s understood that an Obama 2nd term is a death sentence for the republic. No one would dispute that.

However, bringing about his second term would mean an immediate uproar from those of us who do care, and it’d be only a matter of time before he does something that turns the country to revolution... armed revolution.

Obama’s “people” aren’t going to take a bullet for him, and when masses of the well-armed populace start sweeping the streets clean of the communists, it’s only a matter of time. I, for one, would stand for America.

Besides, if you think for a minute that Obama’s going to lose this next election, you’re a dolt. He cheated his way to the WH before, and now he has legions of “99%-ers” who will pack ballot boxes and intimidate voters, and the media will march in lockstep all the way to the devolution of the United States of America.

We must draft, nominate and elect Sarah Palin president in the most crushing tidal wave of enthusiastic good judgment ever seen in the history of this nation. With that one bold move we will accomplish the dual goals of seeing America led by the greatest natural born leader in our generation ...

This is fantasy.

Herman Cain did not drop out because of distractions and incessant harping by the media. He is too tough for that. I believe he is worried for the safety of his family.

Think about it. The current governing regime is Marxist to the hilt. They are turning up wannabe hippies (occupiers) and spreading hate and discontent like it was the 1960s. And, what was one of the hallmarks of the 1960s? It was political violence including political assassination. There is a reason Herman Cain has had protection by the Secret Service.

Herman Cain has faced down death during his life, but his family has not. I just have to wonder whether his reason for dropping out now is to protect his family from serious threats that have yet to be revealed, if they ever will be. Just wondering.

This is a sad day for our country. God belss you, Herman Cain, and your family.

Gingrich is Cain’s problems on steroids.

Now I’ll go out and eat a Cain Pizza....Chicken topping. He knew he had a closet full of “mess” and though he could be decietful enough to fool everyone. He is a quitter just like Gingrich, the only difference is that Gingrich has a walk-in big big closet with a whole haunted house full of skeletons.

Old Mitt must be happy as can be now. Oh wait there is Ron Paul. I think I like Paul now. And after all, is solution of allowing Iran nukes is perfect. Because as soon as he is elected Israel will be forced to annihilate every square inch of Iran. Win Win......GO RON P.

Now lets me finish off this pizza.
