This reminds me of the role played by Luke Askew in the movie "EASY RIDER".
There's always the one guy who is waaay cooler than everyone else. He cruises above the turbulence, takes advantage of the work the others do, stops by now and then with a bag of goodies or to make it with his choice of the female flock. These guys have a way of appearing and stepping up to a place of reverence where they lord over the minions but never get tarnished, beaten, or arrested. They enjoy everything pleasurable or sensational and avoid any this bad. The guy on the bike is probably powering up John's cappuccino machine so he can invite some babes over for a sample.
