Obama to Kansas to Evoke Teddy Roosevelt

OSAWATOMIE, KAN. -- President Obama will give an economic speech in Osawatomie, Kan., Tuesday at a location the White House says it was very specific in picking and was meant to stir echoes of President Teddy Roosevelt.

Roosevelt spoke in the very same town more than 100 years ago on Aug. 31, 1910, where he presented his vision for America and the coming 1912 election.

Sound familiar?

That's by design.

Roosevelt gave what was called a "New Nationalism" agenda, talking about regulation on special interests (even using that term), and calling out for welfare, human rights and a greater role for federal government.

At the time the remarks, given to more than 30,000 people, had a wide-range of reaction, even some calling them "Communist and "Socialist," according to the Kansas Historical Society.

Others lauded it as a great address.

"This New Nationalism regards the executive power as the steward of the public welfare," Roosevelt said.

Very appropriate considering the fact that Teddy was a rabid progressive.

Teddy Roosevelt loved America and Americans, even if he made a few wrong-headed decisions. BO hates America and Americans and everything Teddy Roosevelt stood for, even if he wants to hide behind Teddy’s facade.

Well, it’s a good thing the White House told the press Obama’s emulating Teddy Roosevelt in Kansas and not John Brown.

Sometimes the press needs direction...

So if Obama sees his shadow, we’ll only be stuck with him for 1 more year...right? Is that the way it works?

Funny, isn’t it, about how Mr. Obama never evokes Jimmy Carter? Pretty much he evokes every other President EXCEPT Jimmy. Wonder why that is?

Obama and Teddy Roosevelt? Both progressives. Subliminal propaganda at work. Wonder whose idea this was? Axelrod? Is this akin to the Greek columns gig? My gut tells me this election is going to be close. Do everything you can to oust the communist. The future of our sacred republic depends on it.

Obama and Teddy Roosevelt? Both progressives.

Obama is going to evoke the progressive program that led to Teddy Roosevelt's defeat. Go Barry!

Obama hates everything TR stood for?

“Roosevelt gave what was called a “New Nationalism” agenda, talking about regulation on special interests (even using that term), and calling out for welfare, human rights and a greater role for federal government...”This New Nationalism regards the executive power as the steward of the public welfare,” Roosevelt said.”

“Obama is going to evoke the progressive program that led to Teddy Roosevelt’s defeat. Go Barry!”

So, who is going to out-progressive Barry like Woodrow Wilson did to TR in 1912?

So Sybil has thrown Lincoln under the bus and opted for Teddy this round. Bully for him!

This moron has to evoke other presidents because he has a lousy record he can’t run on. I just wonder how long it will be before he emulates Washington. He can always turn to his teleporterprompter for help.

I’m sure that whatever Obama says his words will be as calming and as unifying as those of another former Osawatomie resident, John Brown.

Keep in mind that back in TR's day, America was still a largely agricultural society and children were considered assets rather than liabilities.

I think TR could see this changing and, thus, his statements. But he never advocated endless government subsidies to feral people to produce feral offspring. Huge difference between TR and BO.

Unless he’s running for Governor he’ll never win in Kansas.

Interesting letter. Are we the citizens of "the wrong type"? Apparently Ayers thinks so. . .
